Florida is a 7-point favorite against Miami in what will be the earliest played football game ever for either program on August 24. The game will be played in Orlando and it’s brilliant for both schools to jump out of the gate first for recruiting.

The Hurricanes are an interesting look in this spot because their true rating isn’t known yet with a new coach, new offensive system and a new QB. Manny Diaz served as Miami’s defensive coordinator the past three season and was awarded his first head coaching job. Dan Enos was the QB coach at Alabama and will be the offensive coordinator and use a spread offense.

But perhaps the biggest reason to suggest Miami’s rating will rapidly increase each week, which I do, is because of Ohio State transfer Tate Martell takes over at QB. If the name sounds familiar for Nevadans, it’s because he was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year for a 15-0 Bishop Gorman squad in 2016.

Miami has 12 starters returning from last year’s squad that went 7-6 (5-8 ATS) and underachieved. The new coach should generate some excitement and the offense should put up lots of points which makes the total going Over 50 attractive as well.

Florida had a great 2018 going 10-3 (9-4 ATS) in Dan Mullen’s first year as head coach and they return 13 starters, including QB Feleipe Franks. But the area that concerns me with the Gators early in the season is replacing four starters on the offensive line. The key to Florida’s success last season was a balanced offense that averaged 213 rushing yards per game.

I’m on Miami +7 and Over 50.

Cards’ total too low?

New Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury hasn’t declared how much playing time his starters will get in their first preseason game at home against the Chargers, but did hint that some of his veterans will be limited and rest altogether to give the younger kids a chance to show what they got.

But one of those young kids is No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray at QB and I’m hearing the relationship between the two has been amazing so far.

This isn’t your average No. 1 QB pick learning a new system. And this isn’t a radical offense coming in like Chip Kelly’s debut in Philadelphia using a QB not well-versed in the offense (they still made the playoffs). Murray will basically be running the offense he ran at Oklahoma that averaged 48 ppg last season.

How many times have we seen a QB drafted early fail in the NFL because the team drafting him didn’t change the offense to fit his skill set? It happens all the time, but Kingsbury, a failed NFL QB himself after an amazing collegiate career, has given Murray everything he needs to be comfortable.

I think the Cardinals will have lots of success offensively this season because of the immediate cohesion Kingsbury and Murray have already with the offense and I’ve bet over 5 wins on the season in one of my few future plays. I’ve also played over 35 points in their first preseason game because between Murray, Brent Hundley, Charles Kanoff, and Drew Anderson at QB, they are going to run a fast pace offensively

NBA spreads

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has adjusted their NBA ratings for the upcoming season and as soon as the NBA trickled out parts of the 2019-20 schedule, they were on it with spreads.

They posted two opening night games with the defending champion Raptors being 5.5-point home favorites against Zion Williamson and the Pelicans. Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers are 2-point favorites over LeBron James and the Lakers.

The SuperBook also posted numbers for the five Christmas Day games: Celtics +2 at Raptors, Bucks +3.5 at 76ers, Pelicans +8.5 at Nuggets, Clippers pick ‘em at Lakers, and the Rockets pick ‘em at the Warriors.
