Not every conference championship game this weekend looks evenly matched, but there’s nothing on the slate as one-sided — at least according to oddsmakers — as Michigan vs. Iowa.

The No. 2 Wolverines finished a 12-0 regular season with a 30-24 win over Ohio State last Saturday. No. 18 Iowa enters this game at 10-2 after finishing the season with four straight wins in which they scored just 60 points total, but allowed only 30.

It’s hard to recall a season like Iowa’s in this sport, as the Hawkeyes racked up one win after another despite having one of the worst offenses in the country.

Michigan vs Iowa Analysis and Prediction

Can Iowa score at all against Michigan? That’s the biggest question fans and oddsmakers have regarding the battle between the Hawkeyes and Wolverines.

Iowa’s offensive struggles have been well-documented. Still, the extent to which this team has stumbled on that side of the ball can’t be overstated, especially for a nationally-ranked squad that won the Big 10 West. Coach Kirk Ferentz‘s team broke 20 points just three times in nine Big 10 games, and that futility has led oddsmakers to set the Over/Under for this game at 35. For context, the Over/Under is 47 or higher in all four of the ACC, SEC, Big 12, and Pac 12 conference title games — and it’s 54 or higher in three of those.

It’s not groundbreaking or original to predict Michigan to win this one 24-3 or 28-0, depending on how much success the Wolverines’ offense has against a solid Iowa D. A score in that range feels like the only realistic outcome, though.

The safest play in this game is taking the first half under, as Iowa will likely manage to keep this one low-scoring for both teams for at least the first 30 minutes. After halftime, it’s hard to predict how aggressive Michigan might get once it has a two or three touchdown lead.

Pick: First Half Under
