Mike Sloan, prominent member of the Las Vegas legal community and longtime gaming executive, has joined Fertitta Entertainment as senior vice president of government relations.
For two decades, Sloan was a senior executive with Mandalay Resort Group (formerly Circus Circus Enterprises) and assisted the entire gaming industry as a member of the board of directors for the Nevada Resort Association, as well as serving as the group’s chairman.
In his early legal career, he served as Las Vegas city attorney as was a deputy attorney general for the Nevada Gaming Commission and the Nevada Gaming Control Board. It was with this experience that Sloan was chosen by both Gov. Bob Miller and Gov. Kenny Guinn to serve on the Nevada Citizen Advisory Committee on Tax Policy.
Throughout his years of involvement in the gaming industry, Sloan was a close friend of the late Terry Lanni, former chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, and shared Lanni’s enthusiasm for thoroughbred racing.
In making the announcement of the new appointment, Frank Fertitta III, chairman and CEO of Fertitta Entertainment, remarked, “Mike is one of the most well-respected and effective executives in our industry and we look forward to the contributions he will make to our company,.”
Sloan’s appointment raised some political eyebrows since he has had a long-time relationship with the local Culinary Union and the Fertittas have consistently opposed unionization of their 17 gaming properties.
