MLB Home Run Predictions (06/07/2023)

Kyle Schwarber (+320, FanDuel)

It has been shocking to see how much Kyle Schwarber has regressed this season. Sure, he was never a high batting average guy, but he is hitting .173 on the season and making less contact on pitches in the zone.

His hard-hit numbers have also taken a slight dip, but he still ranks in the top 10% in the league in average exit velocity, Barrel%, and walk rate. Despite the lowest batting average of his career, Schawrber has a 103 wRC+, and he has increased his walk rate while slightly decreasing his strikeout rate.

Schawrber had 10 hits in May and a slash of .115/.300/.368. However, seven hits were home runs, and he has since heated up in June. Through six games, Schwarber has three home runs and a slash of .250/.357/.667 with a 1.024 OPS.

Tonight, Schwarber will go up against Tyler Holton, who will be making his first Major League start. He has been solid for the Tigers coming out of the bullpen this season, with a 2.32 ERA, and Holton ranks in the 91st percentile in average exit velocity.

He has had some trouble with the long ball in the past, and his xERA of 4.19 and xFIP of 4.25 point towards regression. However, this is a lineup that can jumpstart that process. Holton has enjoyed a lot of luck so far this season, and with how well Schwarber is swinging the bat, he could jump on him early.

A power-hitting lefty going up against a southpaw isn’t the most attractive matchup, but Schawber has been mashing lefties as well as he ever has in his career. Expect Schwarber to stay hot and hit another home run tonight.

Eddie Rosario (+520, FanDuel)

Although he still is not as constant at the plate as he once was, Eddie Rosario has been very good for Atlanta this year. He comes in with a .212 ISO and has been hitting the ball harder than ever this season.

In five games played this month, Rosario slashes .333/.333/.905 with a 1.238 OPS. He also has three home runs in that period, including a clutch grand slam against the Diamondbacks with the Braves down to their final out.

It will be a tough matchup with Justin Verlander getting the start for the Mets, but the reigning AL Cy Young winner has not gotten off to a good start this season. He enters tonight with a 4.25 ERA and ranks in the bottom half of the league in HardHit%, Barrel%, and average exit velocity. Verlander has also struggled to get guys to swing and miss, and he has a Z-Contact% of 90%, which is very alarming.

While Verlander is due for some positive regression, his HR/9 is up to 1.50 on the year. Even if Rosario can’t get ahold of one from Verlander, the Mets bullpen has been a disaster this year, allowing the fourth-most home runs, including the game-winning two-run bomb to Michael Harris II last night.
