Ryan McMahon ()
In his age-28 season, Ryan McMahon has blossomed into a solid player for the Rockies. He enters tonight with a slash of .253/.336/.464 with a xwOBA of .348 and a 100 wRC+. While his strikeout rate is up, he also has 22 home runs, and his ISO (.210) sits at a career-high.
He also has increased his Barrel% and HardHit%, both of which rank in the top 30% of the league. McMahon also ranks in the top 25% of the league in average exit velocity, xwOBA, and xSLG. This month has not been so kind to him, as McMahon only has a .328 wOBA and a 90 wRC+ in August.
However, he still has five home runs this month, and his Barrel% is up to 15%. McMahon is also playing at home tonight, where he has absolutely crushed the ball. We all know about how much of a hitter’s ballpark Coors Field is, and McMahon proves just that.
McMahon has a .525 SLG, .882 OPS, and a .244 ISO with a .374 wOBA at home this season. Those numbers are significantly worse on the road, as he grades out as a below-average player away from Colorado.
He has a tough matchup against Charlie Morton and an excellent Braves bullpen tonight. While Morton does not give up a lot of power, he is due for some significant regression, as his xERA sits one entire run higher than his actual ERA, and Morton gives up more power to right-handed hitters and on the road.
With a price of , this is well worth a play tonight.
Christian Walker ()
Although the Diamondbacks have completely fallen apart after a hot start, Christian Walker‘s career season continues as they fight for a wild-card spot. On the season, Walker has a slash of .270/.344/.521 with a .364 wOBA and a 130 wRC+.
He is not hitting the ball as hard as he did last season, but he has 28 home runs and a .251 ISO this season. Walker also ranks in the 75th percentile in Barrel% and is in the league’s top half in xwOBA, xSLG, max exit velocity, and HardHit%.
Tonight is a tough matchup against Clayton Kershaw and the surging Dodgers, but Walker has been on fire this month. Through 25 games, he has a slash of .308/.363/.549 with a .384 wOBA and a 143 wRC+. Walker also has six home runs, and his Barrel% is up 5%.
Combine his hot bat with how well he has hit left-handed hitting this season, and you have all the conditions for a player to hit a home run. While he has been effective against righties as well, Walker has a .348 ISO and a slash of .268/.362/.616 with an OPS of .978 against southpaws.
Kershaw may be having another great season, but he is due for some major regression and has had a tough time avoiding barrels. The Dodgers bullpen has also been great, but Walker is crushing the ball right now, and with a warm and windy day forecasted in Los Angeles tonight, he should be able to hit one out tonight.
