Ozzie Albies
Ozzie Albies is having one of the best seasons of his career. While his BA has steadily declined over the last few seasons, he still slashes .265/.324/.506 with a 118 wRC+. He has also cut down on his strikeout rate and is hitting the ball harder than ever.
Through 119 games, Albies has 28 home runs, and he currently sits on a career-high in ISO (.241), Barrel% (8.7%), and HardHit%. While his xSLG and xwOBA point towards some slight regression, Albies has been crushing the ball, especially this month.
In August, Albies has a slash of .319/.360/.565 with a .389 wOBA and a 145 wRC+. He also has four home runs, a .246 ISO, and his Barrel% is up to 10.9%. Not only will this game be played in Colorado, where it is much easier to hit home runs, but Albies is significantly better away from Atlanta.
Albies is slashing .286/.345/.556 with a .902 OPS and a .270 ISO on the road. In Atlanta, Albies is actually a below-average offensive player. It also helps that Albies crushes left-handed pitching, and the Rockies have a struggling lefty getting the start in Kyle Freeland.
C.J. Abrams
Don’t look now, but the Washington Nationals are a scrappy team, and franchise shortstop C.J. Abrams has played a significant role in that. While he struggled at the beginning of the season, Abrams has settled in and become a very solid big-league player.
He only slashes .253/.303/.411 with a .309 wOBA and a 93 wRC+ for the season. However, he has been swinging a hot bat since the All-Star break. Over his last 43 games, Abrams has seven home runs, a 104 wRC+, and his Barrel% is up to 7.5%.
Abrams still has a long way to go regarding his progression, but we see the first signs of why he was a highly-touted prospect. He has actually been a little better on the road, and he has a favorable matchup tonight against Chris Bassitt and a shaky Blue Jays bullpen.
Bassitt is putting up the worst season of his career, and it is fixing to get even worse, as his xERA points towards some slight regression. He is also giving up some of the hardest contact of his career, and his last five starts have not been pretty. The Bullpen has been pitching a little better recently, but they still give up a ton of hard contact and have difficulty avoiding barrels.
