The Texas Rangers are in a freefall and currently sit outside the playoff race for the first time this season. While there is still plenty of time to clinch a spot, it is pretty crazy to think the Rangers’ odds of making the postseason are now in serious doubt. 

Luckily, they still have a great offense led by Corey Seager. On the season, Seager has a slash of .336/.398/.652 with a .432 wOBA and a 177 wRC+. He also has 30 home runs, and he sits on career highs in ISO (.316), Barrel% (17.6%), and HardHit% (55.3%). 

Seager’s xBA and xSLG point towards some mild regression, and we have started to see that this month, as he is only slashing .237/.256/.658. However, Seager is still crushing the ball, as he has five home runs with a .421 ISO, and his Barrel% and HardHit%, while down, are still at a very impressive level. 

The Rangers have a massive game in Toronto tonight, as the Blue Jays are one of the teams Texas will be fighting with for a Wild Card spot. Toronto currently holds one of the Wild Card spots, and they will send out one of its best arms in Chris Bassitt, to get the start. 

Bassitt has a 3.69 ERA, and over his last six starts, he has only allowed 12 runs in 40.2 IP with a 2.66 ERA. However, Bassitt gives up a lot of hard contact and his xERA and xFIP point towards some significant regression.

Although Toronto’s bullpen has been relatively solid lately, Seager is still crushing the ball, and in only six games played at the Rodgers Center, Seager has a slash of .400/.464/.480 with a .944 OPS.

Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Padres are practically eliminated from the playoffs at this point, and Fernando Tatis Jr. is in the middle of one of the biggest slumps of his career. Since August, Tatis has a slash of .221/.304/.371 with a .297 wOBA and a 90 wRC+. He is also striking out at a very high clip and is not making as much contact on pitches in the zone as he usually does. 

However, he still has some of the best power in the game. Despite the slump, Tatis has five home runs and a 15.2% Barrel%, which would rank in the top 15 this season among qualified hitters. Tatis ranks in the top 10% of the league for the entire season in xwOBA, xBA, xSLG, average exit velocity, and HardHit%. 

San Diego is in Los Angeles tonight, which is always a rough series, but the Dodgers will send out Gavin Stone to get his fourth MLB start tonight. He has bounced around AAA and the MLB this season, and although he has showcased his elite strikeout potential at both levels, his 10.50 ERA and 6.71 FIP do not indicate a great start to his career. 

Stone has given up four home runs in 18.0 IP with the Dodgers this season and is going up against one of the better lineups in baseball. While Tatis is usually one of the best right-on-right hitters in baseball, he has struggled this season, as he is only slashing .249/.304/.437 with a .740 OPS and a 104 wRC. 

But Tatis is still crushing the ball; he is just not getting the proper results. With an easier matchup on the mound and the wind blowing out toward left-center in Los Angeles, tonight would be the perfect night to back Tatis’ MLB home run prop odds.
