New York Mets at Chicago White Sox

Over/Under: 9

First pitch: 5:10 p.m. PT

Probable pitchers: Noah Syndergaard (7-5, 4.33 ERA) vs. Reynaldo Lopez (5-9, 5.52 ERA)

Syndergaard has made it no secret that he wants to remain in New York when tomorrow’s trade deadline comes and goes. But how does that translate for Thor tonight in his potential final start as a Met?

Reading into the psychology of Syndergaard entering this spot, I think he comes through and shines with a standout performance. Let’s not forget that this is a guy who is passionate on the mound and with that extra motivation of wanting — and proving he can still be valuable for a playoff push — to stay put, that can help lift the 26-year-old to one of his signature overpowering outings.

He’s certainly looked like his old self since the All-Star break, going seven strong in all three of his assignments and ultimately producing a quality start in each. Another sign that Syndergaard is back in form is that he racked up 25 strikeouts compared to six walks in those three starts.

The other starter in this series affair, Lopez, has also been surging since the Midsummer Classic — and he called it, too.

After his last start prior to the break on the Fourth of July, Lopez proclaimed we’d “see a different pitcher going forward for the second half of the season.” The fourth-year right-hander has lived up to his word, as just like his counterpart, Lopez has churned out three quality starts in as many tries. He’s also notched a 1.71 ERA during this span.

Additionally, the strikeouts have been there, with Lopez crafting 25 K’s in 21 innings while walking just four thus far in the second half. It’s pretty clear that Lopez is in a nice rhythm right now and certainly motivated to sustain it based on that comment he made right before the first-half intermission. Play: UNDER 9 (-105)

Yesterday’s Result: Orioles-Padres Under 8.5 (loss)
