San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers

Over/Under: 9

First pitch: 4:15 p.m. PT

Probable pitchers: Madison Bumgarner (5-7, 4.03 ERA) vs. Zach Davies (7-2, 3.07 ERA)

Despite exiting his last start early after being drilled by a line-drive to his pitching elbow, Bumgarner sounds like he escaped the incident unscathed and will be at full health on six days of rest when he makes his first assignment of the second half.

That’s important because everything else should be there for the former World Series MVP. When a franchise icon is strongly rumored to be on the move after spending his entire career in one organization, that player will typically cherish his time remaining, ensuring his best effort.

And it’s not like these games are meaningless for Bumgarner, as while the Giants may be in the National League West cellar, they’re also only 4.5 games back of the second postseason Wild Card spot.

Mad Bum has an enticing history opposite the Brewers, being 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 13 career meetings. Additionally, he’s contained Milwaukee to the tune of a .192 batting average against. He can also benefit from the fact that the Brew Crew racks up the second-most K’s per game (9.54) in the NL.

The other starter in this affair, Davies, also comes in with encouragement based on his past encounters with San Francisco. In three career outings, the fifth-year right-hander logged a nice 2.81 ERA.

Of course, that’s a very small sample size but Davies’ notable overall consistency in 2019 is comprised of a much larger body of work. It’s why he was considered one of the bigger All-Star snubs, given how in his 18 starts, only in three of them did Davies yield more than three runs.

All under backers would need here is just a fine outing from Davies, with the total being as high as 9. Bumgarner has potential for a standout performance and these two solid bullpens can do the rest. Play: UNDER 9 (-120)

Yesterday’s Result: Diamondbacks-Cardinals Under 8.5 (WIN)
