In the National League, Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks is still the heavy favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year. Although players like Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz and have had great seasons for the Reds, the oddsmakers have locked in on Carroll, as he is -2500 to win NL Rookie of the Year at BetMGM.

Meanwhile, the AL Rookie of the Year odds now have Gunnar Henderson listed as the odds-on favorite, with a pair of Boston Red Sox in Masataka Yoshida and Triston Casas rounding out the top three.

There is still a little over a month before we crown the MLB Rookies of the Year. Here, we will look at the up-to-date 2023 MLB Rookie of the Year odds and briefly overview each of the top three betting favorites in the American and National leagues.

AL Rookie of the Year Favorites

Gunnar Henderson (-380, FanDuel)

One of many promising youngsters for Baltimore, Gunnar Henderson, had a slow start to his rookie season. However, he has heated up this summer, and his AL Rookie of the Year odds have skyrocketed him to the top of the betting boards.

Henderson is slashing .276/.326/.545 with an OPS of .871 since June, and he also has 16 home runs and 47 RBI. While he ranks in the bottom half of the league in K% and Whiff%, Henderson has a lot of power in his bat, ranking in the top 30% of the league in Barrel%, xwOBA, xSLG, HardHit%, and average exit velocity.

Luckily, Henderson does not chase pitches, and as the season progresses, so does his approach at the plate, which is evident by his monster summer. Now that Henderson is favored to win AL Rookie of the Year, if he continues at this pace, Henderson will absolutely take home the award, especially with how good Baltimore has been this season.

Masataka Yoshida (+600, BetMGM)

We picked Masataka Yoshida to win AL Rookie of the Year before Opening Day, and while his odds are slipping, it was a solid pick. The AL Rookie of the Year odds favor Henderson, but the oddsmakers are still giving Yoshida a chance.

During the WBC, Yoshida displayed his elite plate discipline, which has translated to the MLB as he ranks in the 95th percentile in K% and 86th percentile in Whiff%. He also does an excellent job at laying off pitches outside the zone, and he has an 88.4% contact rate on pitches in the zone.

For a Red Sox team that needs offensive production to keep its playoff hopes alive, Yoshida has arguably been the most important player on the team.

While he is not a great power hitter, he ranks in the 55th percentile in HardHit%, and his xSLG and xwOBA rank in the league’s top half. We are 112 games into his MLB career, and so far, he looks like he belongs.

Triston Casas (+700, FanDuel)

Out of almost nowhere, Triston Casas has become one of the best rookies in baseball. While it may be a little too late to catch Henderson or even Yoshida, Casas has finally showcased why he was one of the top first-base prospects in baseball.

After a nightmare first Major League season last year, Casas has gotten more and more comfortable as this season progresses. Since the All-Star break, he has really turned it on, with a slash of .309/.406/.645 with a .336 ISO and a 178 wRC+.

He also has a lot of power in his bat, ranking in the 90th percentile in Barrel% and the top 25% of the league in HardHit%, xSLG, xwOBA, and average exit velocity. If he keeps up this pace, not only will his odds of winning the AL ROY get better, but the Red Sox become a much more dangerous team, especially if they can snag a playoff spot.

NL Rookie of the Year Favorites

Corbin Carroll (-1700, Caesars Sportsbook)

From the start, Corbin Carroll has been the best rookie in baseball, and luckily, he avoided a major injury earlier this summer. He has not been as great since then, but Carroll jumped out to such a big lead in the NL Rookie of the Year race that it is hard to imagine him losing at this point.

While the NL has a loaded field of rookies, especially De La Cruz and McLain, Carroll is still the favorite to win. Most sportsbooks now offer Carroll vs. the field odds along with the NL ROY odds. If you bet on the field and any player besides Carroll wins ROY, you win your wager.

However, Carroll is a heavy odds-on favorite to win, and it would take a lot for McLain, De La Cruz, or any other NL rookie to catch him.

He has struggled a bit since the All-Star break but is still slashing .275/.354/.502 with an OPS of .857, and he has 21 home runs and 61 RBI. He also ranks in the league’s top half in HardHit%, Barrel%, xSLG, xBA, and xwOBA.

Matt McLain (+1100, FanDuel)

Matt McLain has rocketed past his Cincinnati teammate in the NL Rookie of the Year odds board.

Through 85 games, he is slashing .297/.366/.516 with a 132 wRC+ and an OPS of .882. Despite having only 15 home runs, McLain ranks in the 66th percentile in Barrel% and ranks in the top half of the league in xwOBA, xBA, and xSLG, HardHit%, and max exit velocity.

While his numbers are slightly down since July, he still is hitting the ball well. In all likelihood, it is likely that no one will catch Carroll for NL Rookie of the Year. However, there is a fleet of Reds’ rookies making a case, and no one has a stronger argument than McLain.

Kodai Senga (+3500, FanDuel)

With De La Cruz’s struggles, Kodai Senga has rocketed up the NL Rookie of the Year odds board. While he may be too far back to actually win, he has really stood out in this Mets rotation since they traded Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer.

In his 23 starts, Senga has a 3.19 ERA, .360 FIP, and has only allowed 12 home runs in 129.2 IP. Senga has been even better since the All-Star break, as he carries a 2.93 ERA and is allowing less power in seven starts.

With the Mets firmly out of the playoff race, who knows how many more starts they will give Senga this season. He fixes to be one of the top arms in this rotation, and New York is still a talented team that can go back to being a contender again next season.

Still, Senga is having a tremendous rookie season, and the NL Rookie of the Year odds reflect that.
