The St. Louis Cardinals are starting Miles Mikolas on the mound tonight in a home stand against the Chicago Cubs. He gets a difficult assignment, facing a Cubs lineup that has battered opposing pitchers in recent weeks. Chicago ranks first in batting average and on-base percentage since the All-Star Break.
Mikolas has eclipsed the 4.5 strikeout mark just once in his last ten starts. On the season, the 34-year-old has posted a 4.33 ERA and a 6-5 record. Take the Cubs’ hitting prowess and Mikolas’ recent struggles, and we have our first strikeout prop bet of the day.
Justin Steele Over 5.5 (-115 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
We don’t go far for our next strikeout prop bet, as we look at the other pitcher in Thursday’s Cardinals vs. Cubs matchup. Justin Steele takes the mound for the Cubs.
The lefty has been efficient lately, especially against the Cardinals. He tossed nine strikeouts in a 4-3 win against the Cardinals last week and eight strikeouts against them in late June. On the season, Steele has posted a respectable 2.95 ERA with a 10-3 record. The Cardinals have the 11h-worst strikeout rate when facing left-handed pitchers.
Steele seems to be playing his best ball when up against the Cardinals, and there’s no reason to think that’ll change today. You can get his strikeout prop bet at good odds, too, with it currently being offered at -115 with DraftKings Sportsbook.
Tanner Bibee Over 6.5 (+125 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Our third and final MLB strikeout prop bet for Thursday, we’re rolling with Tanner Bibee and the Over. The 24-year-old makes the start for the Cleveland Guardians. He’ll face a downtrodden Chicago White Sox team that has seemingly already checked out on the season. Bibee has a 6-2 record with the surging Guardians and a 3.04 ERA.
Bibee has gone over 6.5 strikeouts in two of four games on the mound this month, including an eight-strikeout performance in his most recent outing against the Phillies and nine strikeouts against the Cubs. The White Sox lineup hasn’t been impressive throughout much of the season. Their .295 on-base percentage is the second-worst in the league and have tallied just four wins in their last 15 games.
Bibee gets a favorable matchup tonight on the mound and should clean up against the White Sox. One of our favorite strikeout prop bets for Thursday, take Over 6.5.
