MLB Strikeout Props (7/25/23)
Here are our best MLB strikeout props for Tuesday.
Taijuan Walker Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+100 on BetMGM)
Taijuan Walker has won seven of his last nine starts for the Phillies and has tossed at least five strikeouts in seven of them. His strikeout production is growing as the season progresses. He registered 34 Ks in June, which is 11 more than any month prior. Through three starts in July, he has already registered 17 strikeouts, including an eight-strikeout performance against the Rays to start the month.
Meanwhile, the Orioles have allowed double-digit strikeout totals in their last five games. Their totals in those games are 14, 14, 11, 10, and 11. Their struggles are likely to continue against Walker, whose primary pitch is a splitter that draws a 40.2% chase rate (about seven percentage points above league average). Eight of the Orioles’ 12 batters with more than 100 plate appearances have batting averages below .250 against off-speed pitches.
The six Orioles bats Walker has seen before have a combined slash line of .220, .273, .293. The batters he hasn’t faced will be looking to figure Walker out in the middle of a team struggle at the plate, which is why we like Walker to hit the Over in this one.
Blake Snell Under 7.5 Strikeouts (-102 on FanDuel)
Padres ace Blake Snell’s Cy Young hopes are still alive and well thanks to his stellar play so far this season. However, he hasn’t been as dominant in the strikeout category in his July starts. In only one of his four starts this month has he tossed eight strikeouts, after doing so in every start last month.

Additionally, Snell is making it less into the game on the same number of pitches. In July, he is averaging just south of 100 pitches a game but has pitched six innings only once. In June, he went at least six in all five of his starts. At this point of the season, fatigue may be pestering the Cy Young hopeful. His primary pitch is a fastball that hovers around 95 to 96 miles per hour, which he uses 51% of the time. With 20 starts under his belt this season, it’s possible his arm may need an extended rest.
That’s not helpful to his chances of hitting the Over here, especially since the Pirates have been doing a stellar job at making pitchers work. If they are able to get Snell’s pitch count up early, he may not make it long enough into the game to tally eight Ks.
Pablo Lopez Under 7.5 Strikeouts (-118 on FanDuel)
Twins strikeout machine Pablo Lopez is third in MLB in the category. In July, he has thrown at least seven in each of his three starts, keeping him on track for back-to-back months with 45 Ks. He is up against the Mariners tonight for the second time in two starts. In his last matchup against Seattle, he compiled seven strikeouts on 98 pitches before being pulled in five innings.
The Mariners have 10 batters who have faced Lopez in his career. Together, they have averages of .297 batting, .333 on-base, .486 slugging, and .820 on-base slugging. Given the averages and that this is their second matchup with Lopez in five days, we like the bats to keep Lopez Under his strikeout total on Tuesday night.
