The MLB season is entering the final quarter with about 40 games remaining on most teams’ schedules. Although today’s slate of baseball games is on the lighter side, there are three MLB strikeout props we’re targeting.
Our best strikeout prop bets for Thursday, Aug. 16, include two pitchers in the early window and one in the afternoon.

These are the current MLB odds for each of the games with a pitcher strikeout prop we’re betting. A complete list of odds for today’s games, including moneyline, run line, and over/under, can be found on our MLB odds page.

MLB Strikeout Props (8/17/23)
These are the three pitcher strikeout props we’re targeting for today’s MLB action.
Chris Sale Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-116 at FanDuel)
The Boston Red Sox are starting left-handed pitcher Chris Sale in a mid-afternoon game on the road against the Washington Nationals. Although holding a winning record, the 63-57 Red Sox are in fourth place in a contentious AL East and three games out of a wild card spot. Boston hopes the southpaw pitcher takes home the series win against the Nats today.
Chris Sale has posted a 4.52 ERA this season behind a 5-2 record. His strikeout prop bet is listed at 5.5 and we’re taking the Over today. Sale has tossed six or more strikeouts in five of his last six starts. Sale threw seven in his last mound appearance in a win against the Detroit Tigers.

Angel Zerpa Over 2.5 Strikeouts (-135 at BetMGM)
In the first game of the afternoon, Angel Zerpa will start on the mound for the Kansas City Royals against the Seattle Mariners. The Over in Zerpa’s strikeouts is one of the MLB pitcher props we’re targeting today. Kansas City is in last place of the AL Central and its postseason aspirations look dead in the water.
Although Zerpa has yet to eclipse 2.5 strikeouts in four mound appearances this season, the 23-year-old left-hander gets a favorable matchup against a struggling Seattle lineup. The Mariners have totaled the third-most strikeouts over the past month and the ninth-most against lefties this season.
Angel Zerpa is far from a household name, but we like his pitcher strikeout prop today. Over 2.5 can be found at BetMGM Sportsbook with around -135 odds.
George Kirby Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150 at BetMGM)
We already have one MLB strikeout prop in the Kansas City Royals vs. Seattle Mariners game and we’re also backing the pitcher on the side. George Kirby has had a solid year, posting a 3.11 ERA with a 10-8 record as the Mariners sit in third in the AL West.
The National League All-Star has thrown at least five strikeouts in four of his previous five appearances including a seven-strikeout performance in his most recent start. Through just two games in August, he’s riding an impressive 0.56 ERA.
One of our favorite strikeout prop bets to make today, we’re taking Over 4.5 with Kirby today. A few books are hanging his strikeout prop at 5.5 with plus money for those looking for a better payout. There’s some added risk, but going Over 5.5 is certainly attainable — but we’ll take the comfort and juice at 4.5.
