MLB Strikeout Props (8/24/23)
Here are our best MLB strikeout props for Thursday, Aug. 24.
Peter Lambert Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+116 on FanDuel)
The Rockies’ Peter Lambert, typically a reliever, has logged a few starts since late last month, and he is up for another this afternoon against the Rays. In his last start, he tossed five strikeouts in seven innings against the White Sox and allowed only one run en route to a 14-1 victory.

Thursday’s matchup is the third and final game between the two in their current series, and the Rays have allowed at least four strikeouts to each Rockies starting pitcher they have faced, including Ty Blach, who is also a relief pitcher.
Over his last three starts, Lambert has tossed at least four strikeouts, including against the Dodgers. He has a nice mix of pitches in his arsenal that include the four-seamer, slider, and changeup. That will serve him well against the Rays, who have been striking out three percentage points above their season average over the last week.
Lambert’s slider isn’t his best pitch, but it should have a significant impact Thursday. The Rays have 11 batters with more than 150 plate appearances this season, and six of them hit the slider at clips well below .250. His least used pitch is the curveball, but considering five of the Rays hit the curveball under .200 and two more hit it under .240, it could be a valuable weapon tonight.
Andrew Heaney Under 4.5 Strikeouts (+120 on Caesars)
Andrew Heaney has played his role in the Rangers’ surprising season quite well. With just 1.5 games separating one from three in the AL West, every game matters coming down the stretch, including his matchup with MLB’s strikeout-leading Twins tonight. Minnesota has been abysmal in this category, but it is still finding ways to put runs on the board and win games.
Taking the Twins to limit a pitcher’s strikeout total may not feel like the best wager, but Heaney is in just as much of a slump as the Twins. He has topped five strikeouts in only two of his last nine games. In his last start, he didn’t make it to the fourth inning, allowed three runs, and was limited to three Ks. With every game counting as a premium, his leash may be short if the Twins are able to jump out on him early.
Heaney has three pitches, the four-seamer (58% usage), slider (24% usage), and changeup (18% usage). Both his slider and changeup are being hit at clips of .270 and above, which are well above league average. His four-seamer is much better, but it may not be enough to get the job done alone. Only seven of the Twins’ 14 batters with 150 or more plate appearances hit the four-seamer at clips below .250, and two of them are just below the mark.
Patrick Corbin Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+110 on FanDuel)
Patrick Corbin takes the mound today against the New York Yankees, who have completely bottomed out this season. In six of their last ten games, they have surrendered double-digit strikeout totals to opposing teams. In two of the four games in which they didn’t allow double-digit strikeouts, two of the opposing starting pitchers registered at least four strikeouts.
Corbin is coming off a six-strikeout performance against the Red Sox in which he allowed only one run in a 10-7 victory. The Yankees are coming off of a nice win against the Nationals, but they struck out 11 times in the contest. The most recent performances of the two lean in Corbin’s favor for this betting line.
The biggest reason we like Corbin Over tonight is his slider, which he uses 34% of the time and draws a chase percentage four points above league average. The Yankees have 12 hitters with more than 150 plate appearances this season, and 10 of them hit the slider well under .250. That’s a staggering amount of the lineup struggling with one pitch.
