We’ve now gone 4-for-5 with our MLB strikeout props this week. Yesterday, we went 2-for-3 to put ourselves back in position to get our record over .500 before the week comes to an end. There isn’t a full schedule today, but there are a couple of aces on the mound tonight and a few other pitchers to keep your eye on.
As for us, our picks for today include taking a couple of Cy Young candidates to hit the Over, and the Under on a pitcher going up against a lineup currently hitting with the best of them.

MLB Strikeout Props (7/20/23)
Here are top MLB strikeout prop selections for Thursday’s contests.
Zac Gallen Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+115 on Caesars)
Zac Gallen is putting together a Cy Young worthy season for the Diamondbacks. He is 11-4 on the season and has a 3.14 ERA, 130 strikeouts, and a 1.08 WHIP. He is up against the Braves tonight, who the Diamondbacks are looking to end their current series with a sweep against.
However, despite defeating the Braves in back-to-back games, the Diamondbacks haven’t racked up the strikeouts, only registering 11 in two games this series.
The Braves lineup has an argument for the best in MLB, but if anyone can rack up strikeouts against the lineup, it’s Gallen. Gallen has faced 12 of the Braves’ batters and is only allowing a slash line of .232, .293, and .362.

In 69 plate appearances, he has thrown 18 strikeouts and only allowed 16 hits. In their one meeting earlier this year, Gallen registered six strikeouts in five innings before the Braves eventually got to him.
Gallen is primarily a fastball pitcher, but his use of the curveball allows him to keep batters guessing. The Braves are among the best in the league at hitting fastballs, as each of their 11 batters with more than 100 plate appearances are hitting the fastball above .250. However, they aren’t nearly as effective against breaking balls. Six of their 11 batters with more than 100 plate appearances are hitting breaking balls below .250.
Gallen’s curveball has a 35.9% chase percentage (nearly eight percentage points above league average), which is why we’re leaning on the Diamondbacks’ star to cover this line tonight.
Blake Snell Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+114 on FanDuel)
Blake Snell is firmly in the running for the NL Cy Young Award this year. In June, he pitched double-digit strikeout games in all but one start for the Padres. In July, he has pitched at least seven strikeouts in each of his three starts, including an 11-strikeout performance against the Mets.
Tonight, he’ll take the mound looking to help the Padres sweep the Blue Jays. Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove registered at least seven strikeouts in their starts against Toronto in this series for the Padres.
Although not as dominant as their Cy Young candidate teammate this year, they both, like Snell, have a deep repertoire of pitches at their disposal. So, given their success in the series so far, Snell should be able to replicate the game plan.
Additionally, of the 13 Blue Jays batters Snell has faced, he has registered 25 strikeouts in 82 at bats – a 30% strikeout rate (about nine percentage points above league average). Look for Snell to continue the Padres’ pitching dominance in this matchup.
Tyler Glasnow Under 7.5 Strikeouts (+115 on BetMGM)
Tyler Glasnow is looking to help the Rays turn the tide after being swept by the Rangers in their last series. To do so, he’ll have to limit an Orioles lineup near the bottom of the list in strikeouts. Additionally, Baltimore is hitting the ball well at the moment, posting strikeout totals of 4, 6, 6, 5, 9, and 6 in their last six games. They are also averaging about 33 at-bats in those games.
Glasnow’s pitch repertoire isn’t favorable against a hot lineup. He uses the four-seamer at a 44% clip, and he puts it in the zone 56% of the time (almost six percentage points above league average). The slider is his second-most used pitch, and he puts it in the zone 44% of the time (three percentage points above league average). His pitch usage and location doesn’t make his odds favorable against a lineup that is finding the ball well at the moment.
Glasnow faced the Orioles back in June and didn’t make it through four innings before the Rays got to him for six runs. He registered seven strikeouts in the game, but considering where things left off between Glasnow and the Orioles’ lineup, we’re taking the bats in this one.
