For an expansion team, St. Louis has had a great run at it so far this season. While the team has lost three-straight matches, including Open Cup matches, they had a stellar start to the season. Coming out on the pitch hot, the club went on a five-game win streak and is currently sitting with six wins, a draw, and four losses on the season so far. The club has upset many high-ranking teams this year so far, including a 5-1 win against the leader in the East, FC Cincinnati.

Players to be on the lookout for on the St. Louis side will be lead goal scorer João Klauss and midfielder Rasmus Alm. Klauss has recorded five goals and four assists this season and is due for a goal not having scored since March, so Rivalry Week might be the perfect stage for the striker. Alm has been a consistent force on offense, contributing an assist or a goal in each of the last four regular season matches. On the season total, Alm has scored two goals and recorded three assists.

Opposite of St. Louis, Kansas City has not lost in three matches, recording their only two wins on the season and a draw over the last two weeks. Kansas is on a bit of a hot streak heading into this matchup, however, if you believe in the power of patterns, Kansas has only won one of their six away matches against expansion teams since 2015.

Leading Kansas City is longtime Sporting forward, Johnny Russell. The Scotland native has been with the club since 2018 and recorded his 50th MLS goal last week in the club’s draw against LAFC. A leader on and off the pitch, Russell has two goals and one assist so far. The rest of the Kansas squad has been pretty unpredictable so far this season. Their nine goals have been distributed across seven players all contributing from different positions. However, Dániel Sallói was a main contributor in the team’s most recent win against Minnesota, recording a goal and assist on the night.
