Ray Kluever delivered last week with his big play, Miami of Florida +1, and it ended up as Ray said. The Hurricanes became the betting favorite at -2½ winning 41-32.

Ray is back along with Mr. Zimmy, whose week was not as good. But, he is stepping up to the plate again and will be back with some winners. If there are more handicappers out there with a mighty opinion please email me your top play or plays. I will be happy to put them in my column and make you famous. I do need them by Sunday night. There were a lot of crazy games in the first week of college football but the one I liked is what I call “dumb and dumber.”

Kent State was playing Towson and a Kent player picked up a fumble and was running it in for a TD – except he was going the wrong way (dumb). The Towson defense said no way and tackled him (dumber)!

My starting point this week will be Wednesday as I will try to pick an NFL winner!

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Cowboys +4 at Giants (46½): The Boys have gone 4-1 ATS in their first game of the season the last five years and would love to knock off the Super Bowl Champs. COWBOYS.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Pitt +3½ at Cincinnati: The Panthers lured the Youngstown State Penguins down to Heinz Field paying them big bucks to come, but were just humiliated 31-17 as a -18½ point favorite. This can’t do much for their ego and now they must go to Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati and play the Bearcats. CINCINNATI.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Penn St. +9 at Virginia: What can I say about the Nittany Lions? It is all over as they are heading along a trail that does not look good. I just can’t back them in any situation right now. VIRGINIA.

UCF +16 at Ohio St.: UM (Urban Meyer) and the “eyes” are on a mission. Believe me, Meyer will not call off the dogs if he can run it up, and he’ll try on each and every occasion. Ohio State looks to be in top physical condition and will wear teams down by the fourth quarter. OHIO ST.

Air Force +21 at Michigan: This is a ZIMMY release; he says blow out! MICHIGAN.

Rice +9½ at Kansas: Mr. Zimmy said he likes Kansas as the Owls look beat up after their loss to UCLA at home and now travel to Lawrence. KANSAS.

Ray’s top play

Iowa St. +4 at Iowa: Ray loves the Hawkeyes and laying less than a TD is a bargain. I looked at the game and noticed the Cyclones have gone 0-4 off a SU dog win facing an opponent off a SU win. Also, Iowa is out for revenge from last year’s 44-41 loss at State. IOWA.

UTEP +7 at Ole Miss: Zimmy tells me it’s all Mississippi this week. Lay the TD as the Miners are coming off a brutal battle with the Sooners. OLE MISS.

Auburn +3 at Miss St.: This will be the other half of the (Can’t) Miss parlay as the Bulldogs come off an easy win. The visiting Tigers were in a battle royal with Clemson plus Miss State is seeking revenge from last year’s loss in Auburn. MISS ST.

Texas Tech -16 at Texas St.: The Red Raiders will not overlook the Bobcats from San Marcos who overwhelmed Houston last week on the road. TEXAS TECH.

Maryland +10 at Temple: The question is how bad are the Terrapins as they somehow pulled out a 7-6 win over William & Mary at home? The Owls handled Maryland easy last year on the road 38-7. TEMPLE.

Florida +1½ at Texas A&M: This is Ray’s second top pick of the week as the Gators visit College Station to take on the Aggies to start SEC play, Ray says A&M gets the money! TEXAS A&M.

Louisiana Tech -3 at Houston: Zimmy says that the Bulldogs from Ruston are itching for this game after losing at home last year 35-34. Revenge will be sweet. LA TECH.

NC State -4 at UConn: This is my trend of the week game as the Wolfpack have gone 0-12 ATS in their last 12 road games as the favorite! CONNECTICUT.

Vandy -3 at Northwestern: Zimmy says the Commodores’ defense will be too much for the Wildcats to handle. Lay the field goal. VANDY.

Added Game

W. Kentucky +39½ at Alabama: Big pay day for the game Hilltoppers. They will come to play while the Tide has little interest in a blowout with  Arkansas up next week. WKU.
