Group H Advancement Scenarios

Win or lose on Thursday, Columbia has already secured a spot in the Round of 16. The surprising win over Germany solidified that.

Making history, Morocco scored its first World Cup goal and kept its chances of advancing alive with Sunday morning’s win against South Korea. But Morocco has to prove itself on Thursday in order to qualify.

Heading into Thursday’s game, Morocco and Germany are tied with three points apiece, although Germany has a 10-goal edge in goal differential, the first tiebreaker. With a win or a tie and a Germany loss, Morocco advances. Should Morocco and Germany earn the same amount of points in their final Group H matches, Germany in all likelihood will move on.

Morocco vs. Colombia Predictions

While Morocco had a match for the history books on Sunday, a win over Colombia will not come easy. With their first WWC goal scored in the 6th minute by Ibtissam Jraïdi, Morocco was able to gain the lead early and hold strong on defense. This won’t be enough to stop an offensive force like Colombia.

Colombia has proven to be strong and steady in recent matches. The 2-1 over Germany came as a shock to many but further confirms the Colombians’ ability on the pitch. In direct comparison, Germany defeated Morocco, 6-0. Unless there is some new-found level of skill from the Morocco side on Thursday, there likely won’t be much competition.

We all love a great WWC upset. If Morocco were to secure the second Group H spot in the Round of 16, it would be the first time Germany did not reach the quarterfinals in every WWC they’ve played in.
