It’s time for the latest edition of an event that has become as American as apple pie: the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. With competition time drawing near, it’s a great time to review the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds listed at some of the top sportsbooks in the country.

Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo have dominated the competition in recent years. As expected, the duo are the betting favorites to win once again.

Odds to Win Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: Men’s Bracket

Let’s review the odds for the men’s bracket listed at some of the leading sports betting apps (odds as of July 3):

NameCaesarsDraftKingsFanDuelBetRivers

Darron Breeden+10000+1700
James Webb+3000+2500+3000+1800

Ren Zoza+6000+7500
Bartley Weaver+6000+5000
Darrien Thomas+7500+10000
Adrian Morgan+7500+6000

Joey Chestnut has dominated this competition, winning the belt in 15 of the last 16 years. His lone loss came in 2015 when Matt Stonie consumed 62 hot dogs to his 60. Last year’s competition was the first time since 2015 that he did not finish at least 70 hot dogs.

A protester interrupted him, and he only ate 63. But he still dominated the field. Second-place finisher, Geoffrey Esper, ate 47.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds: Women’s Bracket

Let’s review the lines for the women’s bracket listed at a couple of the leading sports betting apps (odds as of July 3):

NameFanDuelDraftKings
Miki Sudo-4000-5000
Michelle Lesco+2000+2200
Larell Marie Mele+2300
Kathryn Prettyman+3400
Field (anyone not listed)+1600

The women used to compete in the same bracket as the men. But since 2011, women have participated in a separate competition. Sonya Thomas won the first three, but since 2014, Miki Sudo has dominated the field. She didn’t win in 2022, but not because someone defeated her. Sudo was pregnant and didn’t compete.

No Value in Picking a Winner in Either Bracket

Chestnut was interrupted last year and still beat the second-place finisher by 16 hot dogs. Had he not been interrupted, there is no telling how many he would have eaten. He could probably give everyone a five-minute head start and still win. Sudo won with 40 hot dogs last year and set a record with 48.5 in 2020.

The winner in 2021 barely finished 30 hot dogs. There is no reason to think she will lose, either. At their listed prices, there is no value in betting on either.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds: Prop Bets

If you are looking to bet on Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds but do not like the idea of risking a few thousand dollars (when you bet on the favorites) for the chance to win $100, then these prop bets may be just what you are looking for.

Here are three of our favorites:

Total Hot Dogs Eaten by Joey Chestnut, Over 72.5 (-112, FanDuel)

Chestnut finished 63 last year despite the interruption. Since losing the title in 2015, he has finished at least 70 in every contest (not including last year) and more than 72 in three (2018, ’20, and ’21). He set the record in 2021 with 76 hot dogs, beating the record he set in 2020 with 75.

Joey Chestnut to Set New Personal Record and Eat More Than 76 Hot Dogs (+350, FanDuel)

Thinking about a human consuming more than 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes seems wild and crazy but not for Joey Chestnut. He ate 75 in 2020 and finished 76 in 2021. Had he not been interrupted last year, he may have set a new record again.

So, there is reason to believe he could do it again. At +350, there is certainly value in this bet.

Joey Chestnut/Miki Sudo Combined Total Hot Dogs Eaten, Over 114.5 (-135, DraftKings)

Sudo’s personal best is 48.5 (2020), but she only finished 40 last year. If she can match that number, Chestnut needs to finish 75. He hit that number in two of the last three years. As long as he doesn’t get interrupted by a protester, there is no reason to think he can’t match that number.
