The 2023 college football season will begin Saturday afternoon when Navy and Notre Dame face off at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Sportsbooks list the Fighting Irish as heavy favorites,. But Notre Dame was a 16.5-point favorite last season and won by a field goal.

If Navy can record an upset over the No. 13 ranked Fighting Irish, new head coach Brian Newberry will become the first in school history to beat a ranked opponent in his first game.

Navy vs. Notre Dame Odds: Moneyline, Point Spread, and Total

Here are the odds for Navy vs. Notre Dame from several top sports betting apps:

Notre Dame got a significant upgrade at quarterback this season in transfer Sam Hartman. He’ll have an excellent offensive line to work behind, a talented group of wide receivers, and a solid run game. However, the team must also break in a new offensive coordinator.

Tommy Rees is now in Alabama (same position). Rather than go out and hire one of the top coordinators in the country to work with a stacked offense, Freeman promoted from within, giving tight ends coach Gerad Parker the job.

As for Navy, with the departure of long-time head coach Ken Niumatalolo, the Midshipmen usher in a new era under Brian Newberry, who served as the defensive coordinator last season. With a veteran offensive line coming back (four returning starters), the run game will be the focal point of the offense. But the Midshipmen are expected to make use of the passing game more this season.

The Navy defense was one of the better overall units in the country last season. With much of that talented unit coming back, the Midshipmen could put up a heck of a fight if they can pick up where they left off.

Navy vs. Notre Dame will be the first game of the 2023 NCAAF season.

  • Notre Dame was 9-4 SU and 7-6 ATS in 2022.
  • Over record for Navy last season was 7-5.
  • Over record for Notre Dame last season was 8-5.
  • In the last 10 games of the series, Navy is 9-1 SU, 6-4 ATS and the Over is 7-3.

Easy Win For Notre Dame?

Losing Tommy Rees to Alabama was a blow to the Notre Dame offense, which could cause it to get off to a slow start. But with the talent the Fighting Irish have on that side of the ball, the offense should get rolling once it works out a couple of kinks.

Navy’s defense was solid last season and should be good this year. They’ll probably slow down the Notre Dame offense in the first half, but they will not keep it contained for long. The score at halftime will be closer than expected, but Notre Dame will blow the game wide open in the second half.

Our Pick: Over .

The Fighting Irish will win the game and might even cover the spread, but that’s a huge line for the first game of the season. Take the Over.
