Odds on NBA Games Today – Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Atlanta Hawks @ Charlotte Hornets

  • Tipoff: 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Location: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC

The Hornets and Hawks first met on the second night of the regular season, with the former coming out on top, 116-110, in large part to PJ Washington and Terry Rozier both scoring in the 20s. Trae Young struggled mightily in that contest, shooting 4-for-19 from the field, including 1-9 from beyond the arc. He did finish with 23 points, however, thanks to a 14-for-15 shooting night from the charity stripe.

Charlotte was struggling to adapt to life without LaMelo Ball, who’s been in and out of the lineup for most of the season and hasn’t played since Jan. 26 due to an ankle injury. The team lost eight straight games in 2024, but have been able to turn things around since the arrival of five new players that they acquired at the trade deadline on Feb. 8.

The Hornets are 2-0 (both as the underdog) since revamping the roster. Newcomers Seth Curry and Grant Williams scored 18 and 21 points, respectively, off the bench in the last game. Miles Bridges did his normal thing with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.

The Hawks, meanwhile, are winners of six of their last nine games but are coming off a loss against the Chicago Bulls as five-point favorites. Similar to his opening game, Young shot poorly from the field (3-for-14) but exceptionally from the free throw line (11-for-12) against Chicago.

Sacramento Kings @ Denver Nuggets

  • Tipoff: 9:00 p.m. ET
  • Location: Ball Arena, Denver, CO

The Kings have beaten the Nuggets in both meetings this season, with the most recent one coming just five days ago. Domantas Sabonis posted a triple-double, while Malik Monk led the scoring effort with 23 points, and the team won by 29.

Aside from Nikola Jokic, who had his typical all-around effort, the rest of the roster didn’t come to play. In fact, every player on the Nuggets logged a negative plus/minus.

Sacramento looks to get back into the win column after losing its last two games, including a five-point loss to the Phoenix Suns. Sabonis notched a 35-point triple-double and De’Aaron Fox dropped a 40-piece, but the team gave up 130 and has given up at least 127 points in each of its past four losses. As expected, the Kings have cashed the Over in seven straight games.

The Nuggets are a different story. Denver, which ranks 29th in pace of play, has hit the Under in 10 of its last 12 games. The Nuggets just got pummeled by the Milwaukee Bucks, 112-95, where Jokic was the only player on his team to score at least 15 points.

If the Joker doesn’t get some help soon, then Sacramento moneyline may be an easy choice.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Utah Jazz

  • Tipoff: 9:00 p.m. ET
  • Location: Delta Center, Salt Lake City, UT

The Lakers torched the Jazz, 131-99 in their first encounter before Utah evened the score in the second go-around. In terms of recent play, the Lakers have a lot more momentum entering V-Day. They’ve won five of their last six games, while Utaz has won just two of their last seven.

Los Angeles is looking to extend its win streak to three games after taking care of the New Orleans Pelicans and Detroit Piston in easy fashion. D’Angelo Russell has been playing lights-out basketball recently, averaging 24.4 points and 6.4 assists while knocking down 46.5% of his threes over his last 14 outings.

Keep in mind, however, that the Lakers don’t do well without rest. They just played last night, and they’re 3-6 in the second game of back-to-backs (2-7 against the spread).

As for the Jazz, they’re 4-5 in such games, so bettors don’t need to worry about them getting fatigued easily. However, they do need to worry about betting on Utah’s moneyline. Utah is 15-25 in games as the underdog. But weirdly enough, they’re also 31-23-1 ATS, which ranks fourth in the league.
