Just a few days into 2024, the NBA storylines are already dominating our newsfeeds. From the Nikola Jokic buzzer-beater that put the Denver Nuggets over the Golden State Warriors to the battle between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama on Thursday night, the Association is as thrilling as ever.
With that in mind, we wanted to dive into the Friday night slate of games to identify some player point total props that we think you should consider at the top sports betting apps.
So if you’re ready to sprinkle a little cash on some of our favorite NBA player props for tonight’s games, keep reading because we’ve got you covered!
Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans
The Los Angeles Clippers are on a heater. They’ve won 13 of their last 15 matchups, and despite their early-season struggles, it appears — at least for the time being — that they’ve righted the ship. As a matter of fact, at the beginning of December, their odds of winning the NBA Finals were +2200. Now, at FanDuel, those odds have shortened to +1400 (Best Live Odds: ).
Ironically, a large part of the reason Los Angeles is on better footing is because of the same player who allegedly had them on the wrong footing in the first place. And that would be James Harden.
Harden was inserted into the lineup alongside the likes of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Russell Westbrook and the Clippers’ chemistry went kaputt. They lost seven of 10 games to start the season. Harden, however, recently claimed that he’s done playing the villain.
And this is why bettors might want to consider backing the Over for Harden’s player points prop as LA faces New Orleans Friday night.
At FanDuel, Harden’s player point total is 17.5 (Best Live Odds: ). On the year, Harden is averaging 17.7 points per contest. And in the last five games, he’s averaging 19.2 points per game.
We’re backing Harden to have himself a night in the Big Easy and exceed the 17.5.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Los Angeles Lakers
As the Grizzlies travel to Hollywood to take on the other LA team, we’ve got two players whose point props we’re keeping our eye on.
The Grizzlies’ point guard is back in action after navigating a tumultuous stretch of personal issues off the court, but in the eight games he’s played this season, he’s been electric. At +13000 (Best Live Odds: ) to win the NBA title, Memphis is still a longshot, but with Morant in his current form, those odds should surely shorten soon.
So far, Ja’s averaging 25.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in his eight starts. At FanDuel, Morant’s point total for his squad’s Friday night matchup against the Lakers is 26.5 (Best Live Odds: ). While we believe that he’ll be key to keeping Memphis in the game, we’re still taking the Under.
And speaking of the Lakers, Austin Reaves — affectionately called Hillbilly Kobe — is the player wearing Purple & Gold whose point total we’re considering.
Reaves began the year in the starting lineup but was moved to the bench in what head coach Darvin Hamm insisted was not a demotion. At any rate, Reaves has been thriving in his new role, is sitting at third on the oddsboard (Best Live Odds: ) to win Sixth Man of the Year, and is averaging 15.3 points per game.
At FanDuel, Reaves’ point total for the Lakers’ game vs. Memphis is 19.5, and in this matchup against a scrappy Memphis team, we’re taking Austin’s Under.
New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers
Can Joel Embiid keep up his campaign to repeat as league MVP? He’s currently got the shortest odds at +210 (Best Live Odds: ) to win the award and his 76ers have the third-best record in the East.
They face a feisty Knicks team on Friday night — a game in which Embiid & Co. will need to pull out all the stops if they want to halt New York’s mini, two-game winning streak.
The big man’s 34.8 points per game is the best in the NBA. At FanDuel, his point total for tonight’s Eastern Conference showdown is 34.5 (Best Live Odds: ), so we’re taking the Under.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Brooklyn Nets
Finally, let’s take a look at superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s player point total as his Thunder travel to face Brooklyn on Friday night.
Shai is sitting near the top of a couple of oddsboards. At +400 (Best Live Odds: ), he’s currently third in NBA MVP odds, and at +340 (Best Live Odds: ), he’s currently second on the board to win Clutch Player of the Year. With 31.4 points per contest, he’s got the third-best points per game average so far this season.
At FanDuel, his point total for tonight’s game is 32.5 (Best Live Odds: ).
Gilgeous-Alexander has averaged 33.8 ppg over the last five. In December, opponent Brooklyn had a defensive rating ranked in the bottom half of the league (the Nets have slightly improved that rating over the last few games). But to us, this seems like the perfect scenario for Shai to go off.
Take his Over.
