The NBA season is underway, and we have three terrific matchups tonight. It starts with an NBA on TNT doubleheader as the New York Knicks take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, followed by the San Antonio Spurs facing the Phoenix Suns. This should be a great night of hoops, and you can make it even better when you bet on some NBA player props.
Later tonight, the Los Angeles Clippers, who just acquired star James Harden, will host the Orlando Magic. There are not a lot of games tonight, but with a playoff rematch and another opportunity for the world to watch Victor Wembanyama, this will be a very entertaining night to take in some NBA action.
If you are looking for a play for tonight’s slate, we have got you covered, as we will give our best NBA props bets from each game. NBA Player Props for Tuesday, Oct. 31
Below, we have included the betting odds from some of our top-rated sports betting apps for each game we have a pick on tonight.
Donovan Mitchell Over Points + Assists
The Cavs have dealt with the injury bug to start the season, as Darius Garland and Jarett Allen have not suited up yet. As a result, Donovan Mitchell has had to endure much of the offensive load to start the season. So far, Mitchell has been on a tear, but Cleveland has struggled as a whole, going 1-2 through its first three games.
Luckily, Mitchell has kept them alive in each game and even hit the game-winner against the Nets on opening night. In two games played this year, Mitchell is putting up 35 points, 5.5 assists, and 6.5 boards per game, and he also leads the NBA in steals, averaging 3.5 per night.
With injuries to a lot of Cleveland’s ball handlers, Mitchell has had the ball in his hands the most this season. He is eighth in usage rate, and he is putting up career highs in shot attempts (24) and three-point attempts (10.5).
The Knicks’ defense is a concern, especially if you remember how well they dominated Cleveland in the playoffs last season. However, Jalen Brusnon is not a very good defensive player, and Mitchell is playing at too high of a level right now.
Kevin Durant Over Assists
We have not seen this Suns team operate at full force yet this season, but one thing is clear: Kevin Durant is still THAT dude.
Through three games, Durant is averaging 27.7 points per game, and while he is not shooting the ball as effectively, he is taking a lot of the offensive workload, with Bradley Beal still waiting to make his Phoenix debut.
Beal will be out for tonight’s game as well, and with Devin Booker listed as ‘doubtful,’ Durant is going to be the primary ball handler against the Spurs. Durant and Booker have only played one game together, and obviously, Beal has not played with either. Until they are all on the court, we will not see the full potential of Phoenix’s lineup.
However, the Suns have been excellent to start the year, as they have the No. 1 ranked defense in the league, and the offense is still making shots. Beal was the main acquisition during the offseason, which forced Phoenix to get creative with filling out the rest of its roster.
They brought in a bunch of veterans on minimum contracts, and they have been great additions to fill in the cracks in this roster. Adding players like Grayson Allen and Josh Okogie gives them versatility on both ends of the court, and Drew Eubanks provides the bench with more size and help on defense.
Having a deep supporting cast should take some of the pressure off Durant tonight, especially against a bad Spurs defense. Although Wembanyama’s presence makes this defense much better, they rank 29th in scoring (123.7), they give up a lot of points in transition, and they are allowing teams to show a high percentage from deep, which is where the Suns take a lot of shots.
Paolo Banchero Over Points
I know he has been having a rough start to the season, but this is a low-scoring prop for a guy as skilled as Paolo Banchero. Through three games, Banchero only puts up 11.7 points per game on 37.5% shooting from the field and 16.7% from deep.
He has yet to hit this player prop, but he has the edge against an undermanned Clippers team tonight. After acquiring Harden from the 76ers, Los Angeles shipped out Marcus Morris, Nic Batum, Robert Covington, and KJ Martin. While they are also bringing in PJ Tucker from the deal, neither he nor Harden will be ready to play in tonight’s game.
This leaves the Clippers with little depth and makes this a spot where Banchero can have his first big game of the season. Although he will have to deal with the likes of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles will also be without Terance Mann, and they are listing Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac as ‘questionable.’
Banchero is way too talented an offensive player to continue to slump like this. Although the Clippers’ defense is brutal to face, Los Angeles does not have a lot of depth right now, and Banchero and the Magic can really take advantage of that with a big night of offense.
