Opening Night NBA Player Props

Jayson Tatum Over 24.5 Points (-104, FanDuel)

The Celtics will ask a lot of Tatum this season. Not just as a scorer and producer on the court, but from a leadership and stability standpoint. The addition of point guard Malcolm Brogdon should relieve Tatum from excess ball-handling duties and allow him to focus on putting the ball in the basket. He averaged 20.6 shots and over 26.0 points in each of the last two seasons, and a strong start to the 2022-23 campaign is in the cards.

Joel Embiid Over 26.5 Points (-115, Caesars)

There’s no denying Embiid’s hunger to win — not just an NBA title but the MVP as well. Embiid averaged career highs in field goal makes, attempts, and points last season.

The Sixers may not want to put quite as much on his shoulders this year, but if James Harden really is a shell of his former self, they may have no choice but to hitch the wagon to their big man. The Celtics will be without shot-blocking extraordinaire Robert Williams, which makes Embiid’s job easier in theory.

Draymond Green Over 13.5 Rebounds Plus Assists (+100, DraftKings)

There are a lot of players and NBA pundits who believe it will take more time before Green is fully in the good graces of the Warriors organization. To whatever degree that may be the case, one thing is true: the more the Warriors win, the better it will be for all parties. The best way for Green to go about contributing to wins — and reingratiating himself — is to excel at the dirty work like he has over his entire career. There’s no shortage of scorers for him to find offensively, and with the (non) shooters littering the Lakers’ roster, there should be plenty of opportunity to clean up the glass.

Anthony Davis Over 0.5 Three Pointers (-130, BetMGM)

Speaking of the Lakers’ lack of shooting, look for Davis to renew his role as a semi-regular three-point “threat”. Davis’ three-point attempts — and efficiency — dipped in each of the last two seasons, but the Lakers may not have a choice but to lean on his talent. It will be a trouble spot all season for the Lakers, but it’s reasonable to expect Davis to be able to sink one three-pointer on a given night.
