As for the Breeders’ Cup, wow!

When the smoke cleared there were two older gentlemen with their forms still folded in their nicotine stained fingers standing in the back of the book in an awesome daze.

One looked at the other and said he wished they would have run the Breeders’ Cup at the end of the month instead of the beginning.

Now he will be broke until Dec. 1.

The person bowed his head and strolled off into the smoky Palace Station haze, never to be seen again until Dec. 1 unless he has some old jewelry sitting around he wants to unload. The Cup results tell the whole story, but I am sure there were some real sharp or real lucky players out there who cashed in big time.

The opportunity was there as I sat at home watching the BC Classic thinking to myself that I was just about to get even with Game On Dude. Then here comes Mike Smith, who I needed last year for the late pick four, making a huge wide move and powering past G-O-D with the other Mott horse Drosselmeyer.

I say to myself after a big swig of the red “why couldn’t he make that trip last year.” I had my thrill, but down the tubes I went as I was left with just one ticket on LSU with the money line.

I take one bad beat but got the breaks. LSU gets home 9-6 and I get even. Thank you, Syl Friedman.

After a slow start in the NFL, I went 3-0 last week with the Monday night game still to be played so look out, I finally understand what is going on, but let’s start with this week’s college selections.

THURSDAY

Houston -34 at Tulane: All the talk is Boise who had its hands full with UNLV last week, but what about this scoring machine in Houston? The Cougars are averaging 56.6 points per game, are 9-0 SU, 7-2 ATS and can name the score here. Get out and lay the lumber early. HOUSTON.

SATURDAY

Pittsburgh +3 at Louisville: We have two teams going in opposite directions. The Panthers have lost three of four, while the Cardinals have won and covered three straight. The Ville have really put it all together and if they win out could finish the season 8-4. LOU-A-VILLE.

Duke +10 at Virginia: We have another team Virginia who has really put it all together. The Cavs’ only loss in the last five coming at Miami and they were in it all the way. They just have too much defense for Duke. VIRGINIA.

Okla St. -17 at Texas Tech: The Cowboys escaped last week keeping their BCS hopes alive. A win here and next week at Iowa State and they go back home to Stillwater waiting for the Sooners. OKLAHOMA ST.

Notre Dame -20½ at Maryland: Would not normally like laying three TD’s with the Irish, but the Terrapins have tanked since the loss to Clemson. They’ve gone 0-3 SU and ATS in last three, scoring 16, 17 and 13. NOTRE DAME.

UCLA +7 at Utah: After back to back wins at home as a dog the Bruins hit the road and head into unfriendly Salt Lake where their bubble will burst. UTAH.

UCF +10 at So. Miss: The Knights only win in their last four games came against lowly Memphis. The host Golden Eagles are one of the hottest teams in the country, winning and covering their last seven. A win here and they stand to go 11-1 since their last two games come against UAB and Memphis. SO. MISS.

W. Kentucky +41½ at LSU: This just looks like an easy take with LSU coming off crushing game in Tuscaloosa and the Hilltoppers sitting on five straight wins and five straight covers. Plus the Hilltoppers possess a real good defense. W. KENTUCKY.

NFL SUNDAY

Bengals +3 with the defense playing on big emotion. This looks like a great take against the Steelers, who find trouble getting a TD in the red zone.

Dolphins -3½ get No. 2 as the Skins just have little or no offense.

Seahawks +7 with the Ravens heading East to West off a huge effort in Pittsburgh. They will be hard pressed to win this game.
