Finally we get some real football as the regular college games and parlay cards come out this week and you can bet yours truly will be firing on all fronts.

As always I think there are some good spot plays and teaser bets in hopes of a big first week. I will pass on Week 4 of NFL preseason. I should have passed after the Hall of Fame Game.

Thursday, Aug. 30

S. Carolina -7 at Vanderbilt: The Gamecocks from Columbia look to be a great teaser play. They have won their opening game the last 12 years. Carolina -1 on a teaser.

E. Michigan +3½ at Ball St.:  One of my many sources, Mr. Zimmy, a great college football handicapper, says the Eagles from Ypsilanti are the right side plus points. E. Michigan.

Washington St. +13½ at BYU: This is another Zimmy play for Thursday. He says the Cougars from Pullman and not the Cougars from Provo will get the cover. Washington St.

Friday, Aug. 31

Tennessee -3½ at NC State: The Vols have gone 15-2 SU in their last 17 opening games. The Wolfpack are 0-4 ATS in their last four openers. Tennessee.

Boise St. +7 at Michigan St.: Boise State has won their last six opening games. If they can win this one in East Lansing they most likely will run the table. Boise St.

San Jose St. +25½ at Stanford: The Cardinal from Stanford have gone 8-0 ATS when laying more than 10. No luck needed here. Stanford.

Saturday, Sept. 1

Ohio +6 at Penn St.: Really don’t know the mental state of the Lions, but one would think the players who are there want to make their mark. Penn State has gone 10-0 SU in their last 10 opening games. I will have them on all my teasers. Penn St. pick’em on teasers.

Tulsa -1½ at Iowa St.: I am making this a double play as Zimmy gave me this game and I like it myself. Cyclones from Ames have gone 8-1 SU in their last nine opening games. Iowa St +1½ parlays and teasers.

So. Miss +19½ at Nebraska: The Huskers have won and covered their last six opening day games. This line is on the rise, opening at -17½ and now sitting at -19½. Nebraska.

Saturday Special

“The U” +1 at Boston College: The reason this is special is this year I will be traveling around the Vegas books looking for bettors who think they are smart and want to get their name in lights. This week Ray Kluever, a professional race ticket writer currently practicing his trade at Palace Station, says this is his play of the week. Ray says the Hurricanes should be at least a 7-point favorite. If they win I will have Ray back next week for more. Miami of Florida.

Iowa -10 at No. Illinois: The Hawkeyes from Iowa City have gone 7-0 ATS in their last seven opening games. This line has moved from an opener of 6½ to 10 so I just may play on a teaser. Iowa.

Bowling Green +28½ at Florida: Advantage Falcons have gone 5-0 ATS in their last five openers. The Gators must travel to College Station next week and play Texas A&M in a real battle in their opening SEC game. Bowling Green.

Wyoming +28½ at Texas: The Longhorns from Austin are really stepping out as they face Wyoming in the opener and New Mexico at home next week. The Cowboys will come to play, having won six straight opening games. Wyoming.

Michigan +12 vs. Alabama: Now we have a real game as the Crimson Tide will look to start their run at the National Title with no cream puff. The Tide will win Cowboys Stadium, having gone 4-0 ATS in the last four openers. Alabama -12 and on teasers.

Added Games

Two from Zimmie: Florida Int. +4, Arkansas St. +35½

Sunday, Sept. 2

Kentucky +14 at Louisville: Way too many points for this in-state battle plus the Wildcats have won their last five openers. Kentucky.

Monday, Sept. 3

Ga. Tech +7 at Va. Tech: The Yellow Jackets got beat at home last year by VT 37-26, but they are 4-0 ATS on the road in conference revenge. Georgia Tech.

Handicapping

Living in Vegas we have the advantage of joining many football handicapping contests. There are a lot of real good ones out there and I am in several. There is a free one in town with only a few hundred people in it, which gives a player a big shot.

The place is Fred’s Bar on Decatur right off of Tropicana Ave. This is one nice bar and soon to have one of the finest eating spots in town serving Greek and Cuban dishes along with many others.

Check out their ad in this week’s GT. Then go see Charlie and tell him I sent you. He will probably buy you a drink and show you how it all works, especially with the daily free slot contest. Stop in, sign up and get some of that free $$$$$
