Down 3-0 in their first-round NBA Playoff series with the Celtics, the Nets face long odds to win four in a row and advance to the second round. PointsBet is offering Brooklyn at +2000 (20-to-1 odds) to become the first team in league history to accomplish the feat. Boston lists Boston at -3000 at DraftKings to take at least one of the next four games and move on.

While coming back from a three-game deficit to win a series has never been done, teams tend to show some fight when they’re in this big of a hole. During this 2022 postseason, the Raptors and Nuggets each took Game 4 to close the series gap to 3-1 in their respective series against the Sixers and Warriors.

The Nets are priced as short favorites over the Celtics in Monday’s Game 4, offered at +1.5 at BetMGM and PointsBet, while Boston is -1 on other oddsboards around the betting market as of this Monday morning update.

The series price heading into Game 4 may not appeal to many bettors — it’s either swing for the fences on a first-ever occurrence with the Nets or lay a prohibitive price with the Celtics. There are other ways to get involved in the series from a props perspective, however, even this late in the game. Here is a sampling from BetMGM.

6 games +900

Celtics vs. Nets Game 4 Props

The Celtics have taken a commanding lead in this series thanks largely to outstanding defensive play, particularly by putting the clamps on Kevin Durant.

Through three games, Durant is shooting an abysmal 36.5% from the field and averaging a modest 22 points per game. He’s just the third favorite to lead Game 4 in scoring, per odds posted at DraftKings, but the second choice at FanDuel to score the first bucket.

Game 4 leading scorer
Jayson Tatum +140
Kyrie Irving +250

Mispriced Early Series Odds

While the Nets entered the season as one of the favorites to win it all, they come into the playoffs as the No. 7 seed — and history has not been kind to No. 7 seeds.

Only one has moved on to the conference semis since the first-round series became best-of-seven. However, while history does not favor the Nets, some sportsbooks did, with Caesars and DraftKings among the bet shops that opened Brooklyn as the favorite to win the series. Bettors reacted by taking Boston at plus-money, and the series price quickly flipped.

Westgate SuperBook, on the other hand, priced the Celtics as the series favorites from the jump, per a tweet from vice president of risk management Jeff Sherman, who handles NBA odds at the respected Las Vegas sportsbook.
