The revenge factor will be the sole focus many have when it comes to the Week One matchup between the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets. Sam Darnold will get the chance to face off with the team that took him with the No. 3 pick in 2018, only to discard him after three seasons for Zach Wilson.
Of course, there are other storylines (i.e., the head coaching debut of Robert Saleh, the return of Christian McCaffrey, etc.) for this week 1 game. But the quarterbacks will likely be the focus of much of the coverage before and after the game.
As for the game itself, with two non-playoff teams in rebuild mode, it may be best to lower any expectations for this one. Whether Darnold can get revenge on the Jets adds some spice to the hype, but the Jets will not be a pushover. However, the NFL betting odds seem to be leaning towards the Panthers getting the win.
New York Jets
The Jets will be entering Week One with heavy hearts after the unexpected passing of passing game coordinator Gregg Knapp. The 58-year-old assistant coach died from injuries suffered when he was hit by a car on his bike recently.
However, while his experience working with quarterbacks will be missed, the stage is still set for the Jets to be competitive this season.
Talk about Wilson has been positive so far. If the young corps of wide receivers (and Jamison Crowder) at his disposal can live up to the hype, the Jets could have a good passing attack.
As important as the progress Wilson can make in the Jets offense is, the key to the Jets season will be the defense. Robert Saleh will need to take last season’s 26th ranked scoring defense and turn it into something more competitive.

For the Carolina Panthers fans, the focus heading into Week One will be twofold—the health and return of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey and Sam Darnold.
Having the 30th ranked offensive line (according to PFF) does not bode well for McCaffrey to remain healthy. But if Darnold can give the Panthers a viable passing attack, defenses will not be able to focus on McCaffrey.
According to the rumor mill, Darnold has looked like the player the Jets had hoped to get when they drafted him in the first round in 2018. Having talented wide receivers like Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, and rookie Terrance Marshall Jr. certainly does not hurt, either.
Defensively, the Panthers appear to be a relatively solid unit with a good front seven and decent secondary. But can they hold off Zach Wilson and the Jets offense in Week One while Sam Darnold works out the kinks?
Fans will be eager to find out.

Prediction And Sports Betting Recommendation
Carolina has seen most of the action so far, with roughly 70 percent of the bets and 90 percent of the handle. That means the spread will probably shift at some point in the near future as sportsbooks try to make the Jets a more enticing bet.
But will that make the Jets a good bet? It all depends on if you believe Sam Darnold can get the job done behind the Panthers shoddy offensive line.
What for the spread to shift and then take the Jets and the points.
