Undefeated and seasons have always been a topic of conversation among NFL fans and the media. There always seem to be a few teams that appear to have a good chance of running the table. But it rarely happens because someone almost always manages to beat the unbeatable team.

However, that does not mean there is no value in betting on someone to go undefeated during the 2021 NFL season. Will it happen?

Any Team To Go 20-0+3500+3000+4000

History tells us probably not. Throughout the history of the NFL, only four teams have completed the regular season with a perfect record (no losses or ties). The Chicago Bears did it twice in 1934 (13-0) and again in ’42 (11-0). Miami was next in 1972 (14-0), followed by the New England Patriots in 2002 (16-0). Incidentally, the Dolphins are the only team to go undefeated in the regular season and win the Super Bowl.

So, yeah— it has not happened often, which makes it seem like a bad bet to take. But heading into the 2021 season, it is not hard to imagine someone pulling it off.

Odds On Certain NFL Teams Having An Undefeated Season

Theoretically, anyone could go 17-0. But let’s be realistic. Yes, the idea of putting money down on +100000 and having it payoff is a dream come true. Does anyone think the Houston Texans, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, or Detroit Lions are going to go undefeated?

Someone could unexpectedly emerge and do the impossible. But there are only a few teams that a believable case could be made for:

Odds On Teams To Go Undefeated (17-0) In 2021/22DraftKingsPointsBet
Baltimore Ravens+6500+6600
Cleveland Browns+8000+8000
Buffalo Bills+6500+6600
Kansas City Chiefs+3500+3300
Tampa Bay Buccaneers+5000+2500
Seattle Seahawks+10000+10000
San Francisco 49ers+6500+6600
Los Angeles Rams+6500+6600

Los Angeles Rams

If the Rams are right about Matthew Stafford being the missing link, then a good case could be made for them. With a healthy roster two years ago, San Francisco went 13-3, with all three losses coming by a touchdown or less. You could say that they were three plays from possibly going undefeated.

With a healthy roster this season, maybe they make those three plays.

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland is a rare team that is good on both sides of the ball. But to go undefeated, a team needs more than just a good offense and defense. ‘Good’ ones are not good enough to win when they have a bad day.

But at those odds, a small wager may not be a terrible idea…

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are a good team, but they had an average point differential of just +5.5 points last season. While three losses were by a touchdown or less, they did lose one by 10. It is hard to say their defense will be any better this year or if the offense will be good enough to pick up the slack.

Right now, there is no reason to think they can run the table this season.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore nearly got the job done a couple of years ago when they went 14-2. The Ravens certainly have the defense to get the job done, and the potential is there on offense. It would be easier to see doing it if they could develop a passing game, though.

Their schedule is not doing them any favors, either. They face the Chiefs—who seem to have their number — in Week Two. Should they make it past the Chiefs, they have a handful of other challenging games (Browns 2X, Packers, Rams).

That leaves Tampa Bay, Kansas City, and Buffalo. On paper, all three appear to be good candidates. They have explosive offenses capable of running up the score. Tampa Bay has the best defense out of the trio, but the Chiefs and Bills defenses are not terrible.

But are they good enough to support the offense in an undefeated season?

Sports Betting Recommendation

The recommendation here is simple—do not put money down on anyone to do it. There is a reason why only four teams in over a century of NFL seasons have ever done it. It is almost impossible to account for every single variable that could impact a game. But the question here is more about value.

Is there anyone that has a better shot at running the table than their odds would indicate?

At +5000, the Buccaneers certainly have value. You could say the Rams and Bills do as well at +6600. While their schedule is not easy, at +8000, a case could be made for the Browns. However, no one has a good enough case to warrant betting more than $10.

But who does not like the idea of turning $10 into $500, $660, or $800?
