The NFL Draft is less than two weeks away (April 28-30). As the most desired QBs of their draft class, where Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis will end up has been the subject of much debate throughout the offseason. Several sportsbooks have posted NFL draft odds on who will draft them. However, after an unusually active offseason for veteran quarterbacks, several teams have answered their QB questions.
But there are others who do not have a franchise quarterback on the roster or could use an upgrade at the position.
Kenny Pickett NFL Draft Odds: Panthers Favored To Select Former Pitt QB
Here’s a partial list of the teams sportsbooks have posted odds on taking Kenny Pickett in the 2022 NFL Draft. Odds are courtesy of PointsBet, DraftKings, and BetRivers and current as of Tuesday.
Team To Draft Kenny Pickett | PointsBet | DraftKings | BetRivers |
---|---|---|---|
Carolina Panthers | +140 | +150 | +150 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | +375 | +350 | +500 |
New Orleans Saints | +400 | +200 | +250 |
Atlanta Falcons | +500 | +500 | +500 |
Seattle Seahawks | +500 | +500 | +400 |
Tennessee Titans | +1900 | +2500 | +1100 |
Washington Commanders | +2500 | +2500 | +1100 |
Indianapolis Colts | +2500 | +4000 | +2500 |
Philadelphia Eagles | +2500 | +2500 | +2500 |
Detroit Lions | +3300 | +2000 | +3000 |
Minnesota Vikings | +4000 | +5000 | +5000 |
New York Giants | +5000 | +5000 | +6500 |
Miami Dolphins | +6600 | +10000 | |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +8000 | +10000 | +7500 |
New York Jets | +10000 | +10000 | |
Green Bay Packers | +10000 | +10000 | |
Houston Texans | +3000 |
It is not surprising to see the Panthers with the best odds. They have the No. 6 pick in the first round, and Sam Darnold does not appear to be the QB of the future in Carolina. If they are going to maximize Christin McCaffrey’s value, they need to find a better option at quarterback. However, the Panthers have other needs and could go with a higher-rated player with the sixth pick in the Draft.
Of the teams picking in the top 10, Houston, Detroit, Atlanta, and the Giants could use an upgrade at quarterback. However, all four have a starter in place for the 2022 season and could meet another, more pressing need with a top-10 pick. Seattle tends to go for the best available player, making it unlikely to take a QB with the No. 9 pick.
If you put much stock in mock drafts, look for Pickett to go to either the Saints at No. 19 or the Steelers at No. 20.
Ryan McCrystal, who is considered one of the more accurate mock draft analysts, has him going to the Steelers with the Saints taking Willis right before them. However, Brendan Donahue, who ranks higher than McCrystal in mock draft accuracy over the last five years, thinks the Panthers will jump the gun and go with Pickett at No. 6.
Odds On Malik Willis’ Potential Landing Spots
Here’s a partial list of the teams sportsbooks have posted odds on taking Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft:
Team To Draft Malik Willis | PointsBet | DraftKings | BetRivers |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Lions | +275 | +350 | +500 |
Carolina Panthers | +350 | +250 | +250 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | +350 | +350 | +350 |
Atlanta Falcons | +450 | +350 | +600 |
Seattle Seahawks | +450 | +350 | +500 |
New Orleans Saints | +1000 | +1000 | +600 |
Houston Texans | +1500 | +1600 | +1500 |
New York Giants | +2000 | +1200 | +2000 |
Philadelphia Eagles | +2000 | +2000 | +2000 |
Washington Commanders | +2500 | +2500 | +2500 |
Minnesota Vikings | +4000 | +4000 | +5500 |
Indianapolis Colts | +2500 | +3000 | |
Tennessee Titans | +2500 | +7500 |
It’s a little more challenging to project where Willis will go in the Draft since he is considered a raw talent in need of some work before he’ll be ready to play in the NFL. But his upside is so significant that someone could decide to roll the dice on him in the first round, anyway. However, in doing so, a team will likely have to pass on a player that could help them win games this season.
Losing too many games this year could lead to the coaching staff losing their jobs. So, why choose a player that is more likely to help the next regime?
Detroit needs to improve at the position, but the Lions will not take a QB with the No. 2 pick; it is unlikely Willis is still on the board at No. 32. If Carolina reaches for a QB at No. 6, the Panthers will probably go with Pickett since he is considered the more pro-ready of the two.
Atlanta and Seattle are certainly solid options, but it is more likely they will take care of other pressing needs in the top 10. Like Pickett, Willis could go to either the Saints or Steelers at No. 19 and 20. Mike Tomlin could weather a losing season, and Dennis Allen benefits from being in his first year as head coach of the Saints.
But the Saints could choose to build around Jameis Winston. If the Panthers pass on a QB at No. 6, then the Steelers could have the option of going with either Willis or Pickett at No. 20.
