Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals Betting News

The Falcons were picked by some pundits as one of the worst NFL teams at the beginning of the season. However, they have outperformed most expectations and find themselves tied for the NFC South division lead. They field an impressive rushing attack and rank third in yards gained per game on the ground.

Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota has also been a serviceable game manager under center. He doesn’t throw the ball often but balances the Falcons offense nicely with his short, accurate throws. He’s coming into this game having only thrown one incompletion in the Falcons’ Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Falcons enter this contest a perfect 6-0 against the spread through six weeks. Only four teams since 2007 have gone 7-0 against the spread to start their season. The Falcons can join the 2021 Cowboys, 2018 Chiefs, 2008 Titans, and 2007 Patriots with a competitive effort against the Bengals in Week 7.

The Bengals are off to a shaky start, with relatively poor performances in each of their six matchups. A number of last-minute heroics by QB Joe Burrow helped salvage three wins, but this Bengals offense needs improvement. The Super Bowl hangover is alive and well in Cincinnati, as the Bengals rank about average in each passing category, and near the bottom of the league in rushing offense.

The Falcons rushing offense could spell trouble for a Bengals team that hasn’t been able to stop the run all season. The Bengals rank 21st overall in rushing defense.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals Prediction

This line feels inflated by a few points. It’s possible that pre-season expectations for each team continue to dictate the point spreads. The Bengals are simply not the same team that went to the Super Bowl last year, and these Falcons are better than advertised.

The Falcons’ win total was set at 4.5 total wins, and they’re two games away from cashing the Over. Look for this Falcons team to improve their record to a perfect 7-0 against the spread against this less-than-stellar Bengals team.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals Props

There are a number of betting props available for Falcons vs. Bengals.

Joe Burrow Over 0.5 Interceptions Thrown +120

The Bengals rely on a pass-heavy offensive scheme, opting to throw the ball more than 62% of the time. Burrow has already thrown five interceptions through six games this season, which makes this a juicy prop to consider.

The Falcons rank fifth in takeaways this season. Against a team that throws often, it’s likely the Falcons force Burrow into making a mistake against their secondary. Getting plus-money for Burrow to throw an interception shows good value.

Marcus Mariota Over 34.5 Rushing Yards -105

The potent Falcons rushing attack features their quarterback taking the ball himself on a number of set plays. Their offense opts to run the ball 57% of the time, the second most in the NFL. What’s more, Mariota has relied on his scrambling to keep passing plays alive and ends up running the ball downfield, which only helps our cause here.

This is an extremely binary bet, as Mariota has averaged almost exactly 34.5 rushing yards per game this season. But his splits? 3, 4, 16, 50, 61, 72.

It’s a high-variance play, but Mariota has gone over this number comfortably in his past two starts. Look for him to do it again against this poor Bengals rush defense.
