Week 5 of the NFL season ousted another large chunk of NFL Survivor contestants, including those playing in Circa Sports’ NFL Survivor pool.
Following Sunday’s action, only 838 of 6,133 (13.7%) of Circa Sports’ survivor contestants remain. The task of advancing only becomes trickier as bye weeks enter the equation. Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, and Tennessee are off in Week 6.

Jaguars Flounder in Week 5, Eliminate Nearly 450 NFL Survivor Contestants
The Jaguars fell to the Texans — at home — resulting in the elimination of 449 Circa Survivor contestants. It was the biggest loss of the weekend, but not a surprising one, given the Texans’ dominance in the series. Sunday’s defeat stretched the Jaguars’ losing streak to nine against the Texans, dating back to Oct. 2018.

Houston’s ownership of Jacksonville extends well beyond 2018. The Jaguars are 4-20 against the Texans since 2011.
This isn’t exactly a “hindsight is 20/20” situation. The 2022 Texans aren’t the same team that enjoyed success with the likes of Andre Johnson, Deshaun Watson, and DeAndre Hopkins over the past decade. Even Matt Schaub was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012.
The Jags entered the game laying 7 points at home, and while they’re still on the outside of the playoff discussion, they’ve demonstrated competence under head coach Doug Pederson. Houston, meanwhile, entered the contest winless without much to write home about offensively. That last point remains after they mustered 13 points, but it was enough to finally get them in the win column.

Giants, Packers Trending In Opposite Directions?
The Packers falling to the Giants in London resulted in the second largest number of Week 5 eliminations (48), and stands as one of the week’s top storylines.
Perhaps more surprising than the Giants’ win is that they entered the matchup as 9.5-point underdogs. On the surface, there’s more to like about the Packers than there is to like about the Giants, but both teams entered the contest 3-1, and while the quality of each team’s record could be argued, it’s not as if the Packers have been particularly impressive.
Meanwhile, Giants head coach Brian Daboll is firmly among the early Coach of the Year candidates, and NFL pundits are asking if the Giants are a playoff team.

The oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook would advise Giants fans to slow their roll on postseason chatter. The G-Men are +112 to make the playoffs, while the Packers are still -280 despite trailing the Vikings in the NFC North.
What Is An NFL Survivor Contest?
Survivor pools aren’t difficult to grasp. Generally speaking, each player in the pool selects one team to win outright each week. The players that select a winning team remain in the pool. Those who pick a losing team are eliminated. The last one standing claims victory. Easy, right?
It’s not quite that simple though. The frequency with which a team can be selected is limited. In traditional survivor pools, a team may be selected only once during the season.
The team you picked with a cake Week 1 matchup is not available for the remainder of the season. The pickings become slimmer with each subsequent week, creating difficult decisions and challenges. The sledding gets rougher in Week 6 as remaining contestants have to contend with four teams on byes.
