Welcome back to the second week of Gaming Today’s 2023 Bookies Battle. One of our bookies is in sole possession of first place for the season, picking 13 of 16 NFL teams correctly. Let’s look at the consensus picks for NFL Week 2 odds and go over the results from Week 1.
Are oddsmakers favoring San Francisco and Dallas too much after scoring big victories in the first week? It seems so according to our bookies. Also, you may be surprised at who made the top five among consensus picks with the group.
NFL Week 2 Bookies Battle Consensus Picks
- Los Angeles Rams – 68% of picks | Contest Line: LAR +8 | Current Line:
- New York Jets – 64% of picks | Contest Line: NYJ +9.5 | Current Line:
- Washington Commanders – 64% of picks | Contest Line: WSH +3.5 | Current Line:
- Chicago Bears – 62% of picks | Contest Line: CHI +3 | Current Line:
- Houston Texans – 58% of picks | Contest Line: HOU +1.5 | Current Line:
Our bookies are fading the top two performing teams from the opening week. The top consensus pick is the Rams +8. This line is still at over a touchdown at most sportsbooks.
There’s a chance this line could have been higher if Los Angeles lost in the opening week against Seattle. San Francisco arguably had the best showing in Week 1 with a 30-7 demolition of Pittsburgh on the road.
The only team that was as impressive was Dallas in a 40-0 blanking of the Giants. But, our bookies are also betting against them with Jets +9.5.
It’s always hard to avoid taking that many points in any NFL game. And New York is coming off a win against Buffalo with a strong defense and immediately losing Aaron Rodgers after the first drive of the game.
Another notable consensus pick is the Bears +3. Despite a horrendous second half against Green Bay, our bookies are expecting Chicago to rebound on the road against Tampa Bay.

- Saints (53%) at Panthers (+3.5)
- Browns (51%) at Steelers (+2)
The bookies were nearly evenly divided on Chargers-Titans, but that may have been different if they knew Austin Ekeler was doubtful for Sunday. The group was also gunshy on taking the Chiefs against the Jaguars despite KC being a field-goal favorite.
Other games that the bookies were almost 50% divided on were also Seahawks-Lions, Packers-Falcons, and Browns-Steelers. We’ll definitely be seeing a lot of interesting results on the bookies leaderboard after this week.
Other observations: The Texans have an expectedly rare consensus pick at 58% as they host the Colts in Week 2. A slight majority of our bookies expect the Bengals to bounce back against the Ravens. Most of the bookies also expect the Bills to have a tighter contest against the Ravens.
Bookies Battle Results from Week 1
There’s a lone bookie in first place after the first week. Duane Colucci (Rampart Casino) only missed on Minnesota, Washington, and Seattle, which were all higher consensus picks. Their best picks against the consensus were Tennessee and San Francisco.
Max Schmerin (BetRivers) also starts off the season well going 12-4. There’s a three-way tie for third place with Jeffrey John Lindheimer (Casino Del Sol), Sean Kuhn (Circa Sports), and Nick Smith (Snoqualmie Casino) finishing with an 11-5 record.
