Catching 6 points at the Saints on Sunday, Seahawks +6 is the top consensus pick among Bookies Battle contestants for Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season, with more than three-quarters of the field on the underdog. These contestants are grabbing a half-point of value, per the market price of Saints -5.5 as of this Friday writing.

After a stellar 13-2-1 tally last week, Bookies Battle consensus plays got off on the wrong foot in Week 5, as the Broncos (-3.5) lost outright in an ugly Thursday night encounter with the Colts, 12-9 in overtime. Two-thirds of pool participants laid the field goal plus the hook with the home side.

That same percentage of players are laying the points with the 49ers in their cross-country trip to Carolina, but at a cheap price of San Francisco -4.5, our bookmakers are on the right side of this line move.

The same can be said for Vikings -7 (vs. Bears) and Cardinals +5.5 (vs. Eagles), as 61% of the field sees nice value on these plays heading into the weekend.

First-Quarter Contest Concludes with Week 5

We have a two-way tie for first ahead of Sunday, with Casey Degnon (Westgate Las Vegas) and Casey Lewless (Margaritaville Bossier City) both sporting 39-24 records after Colts-Broncos.

The standings once the Week 5 results are tallied have taken on greater importance this year. It marks the end of the first-quarter mini-contest, the winner of which cashes a $500 check and earns a spot in the playoff portion of our contest, where there’s another $2,000 at stake.

Jason Scott (BetMGM) and Kalen Carlisle (Wynn) are a game behind the leaders, defending regular-season champ Max Schmerin (Rivers Casino Pittsburgh) two games back, and Seamus Magee’s (BetMGM) 36 winners have him three games back.

About 60 bookmakers, including some of the top experts in the sports betting business, are competing in Bookies Battle 2022.

Jason McCormick in the Bookies Spotlight

Gaming Today’s Kris Johnson caught up over the phone this week with Bookies Battle contestant Jason McCormick, VP of Race & Sports at Station Casinos.

Jason talks about stepping into the big shoes of legendary Vegas bookmaker Art Manteris, learning under the tutelage of Art and Johnny Avello, why horse racing remains crucial at his shop, and the tough beat suffered by college basketball bettors this past April.
