The Dallas Cowboys return to action off their bye week to visit the Minnesota Vikings in the highest projected scoring game on the NFL Week 8 slate. The total opened 53 in Las Vegas on Sunday night, and the consensus number stands at 55 as of this Thursday writing.
The Cowboys have been money when it comes to covering the spread this year for sports bettors at a perfect 6-0. But how about the total? Nearly as impressive at 5-1 to the OVER.
The Vikings are coming off their highest-scoring game of the season. The 34-28 win over Carolina pushed Minnesota’s OVER/UNDER record to 3-3 on the year.
NFL Week 8 Totals
Thursday: Packers at Cardinals (O/U 50.5)
Opposite the Cowboys-Vikings total, this number has dropped a full two points from its opener of 52.5 to 50.5. That’s understandable given the news that Packers WRs Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are both on the Covid list and will not play. Aaron Rodgers still has key passing targets, including Aaron Jones out of the backfield. The lower number offers a prime buying opportunity if you like the OVER.
Dolphins at Bills (O/U 49.5)
The Bills are the second-highest scoring team in the NFL behind the Cowboys. But Buffalo, which averages 33.8 points per game, has gone UNDER in two of its three home games this year.
Panthers at Falcons (O/U 46)
This number is juiced to the OVER at some books, including PointsBet (-115). If you’re leaning toward the OVER, the number dropped to 45.5 (-110) at DraftKings.
Eagles at Lions (O/U 48)
You’ve really got to feel for Lions fans. In addition to being winless, Detroit has gone UNDER the total in its last five games.
Titans at Colts (O/U 50.5)
If you’re keen on the UNDER, you can find some 51s out there at WynnBET, PointsBet, and DraftKings. But take note: The OVER has cashed in all three of Tennessee’s previous road games this year.
Rams at Texans (O/U 47.5)
The Rams are putting up nearly 30 points a game. They went OVER in the first four games of the year, but have since gone UNDER, PUSH, UNDER in the last three.
Bengals at Jets (O/U 42)
Can you name the current QB for the Jets? OK, we’ll spot you: Mike White. This is one of the lowest totals on the board this week. Mr. White might have something to do with that.
Steelers at Browns (O/U 42.5)
Another low total here. Case Keenum performed well in his first start after taking over for the injured Baker Mayfield. This could be another grinder type game like the Browns’ 17-14 win against Denver last Thursday.
49ers at Bears (O/U 39.5)
The lowest total on the board can be found here. After SuperBook USA opened this at 43 Sunday night, there’s been a steady progression downward to this sub-40 number.
Jaguars at Seahawks (O/U 44)
We have identical trends for these two teams heading into this matchup. The Jags and Seahawks have both gone UNDER in four of their last five games.
Patriots at Chargers (O/U 49)
The Chargers are coming off a bye and could bounce after scoring a season-low six points in their blowout loss to the Ravens. But L.A. has gone UNDER in five of its six games this year.
Washington Football Team at Broncos (O/U 44.5)
Ron Rivera’s squad has gone without much in the way of offense the past two weeks with an average of 11.5 points per game. This game has UNDER written all over it.
Bucs at Saints (O/U 50)
Tampa Bay covered this number on its own last week with 54 points against the Jets. The Saints aren’t the Jets, but this number seems too low given Tampa Bay’s high-octane ways. The Bucs beat the Saints 30-20 at New Orleans in last year’s playoffs.
Giants at Chiefs (O/U 52)
The Chiefs are reeling heading into this MNF matchup. If you’re among those leaning UNDER on this game, you can find 52.5 at several books, including FanDuel.
