As we enter Week 9 of the 2021 NFL season, road underdogs are 42-29-1 against the spread, covering at a clip of nearly 60 percent.
The Green Bay Packers have a chance to improve that record when they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs as 2.5- to 3-point underdogs in this week’s headliner game, set for Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Aaron Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes. The OVER/UNDER on State Farm commercials during the game is 8.5 (Hint: take the OVER).
The Packers dealt the Cardinals their first loss of the season last Thursday night. Green Bay, which played without WRs Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, was getting 6.5 points on the road in a 24-21 win.
Let’s explore the rest of the games on the Week 9 slate.

NFL Week 9 Odds
Thursday: Jets at Colts (-10.5, 46.5)
Remember that snide remark about Jets QB Mike White in this space last week. To paraphrase: Who is this guy? Well, he’s the guy who threw for 405 yards and three TDs in a 34-31 win over Cincinnati in his debut as a starter. It marked just the second victory of the year, both straight up and ATS, for the Jets.
Texans at Dolphins (-7, 45.5)
The Dolphins are reportedly the last team standing in the quest to land Texans QB Deshaun Watson before Tuesday’s trade deadline. There’s more intrigue surrounding that development than this game, which features two teams with a combined two wins on the year.
Broncos at Cowboys (-8.5, 49)
SuperBook USA in Las Vegas opened this number -8 Sunday night, and despite the uncertainty surrounding Dak Prescott’s calf injury and 7.5s showing up on some oddsboards, there’s been early movement in Dallas’ direction. The Cowboys improved their ATS record to a perfect 7-0 with last night’s 20-16 win against the Vikings.
Vikings at Ravens (-6, 50)
Minnesota attempts to rebound from that loss on the road at Baltimore. The Ravens will be coming off their bye week with an ATS record of 3-4.
Patriots (-3, 43) at Panthers
Carolina snapped its four-game losing streak with a 19-13 win over Atlanta, but Panthers QB Sam Darnold left the game with a concussion. If backup PJ Walker is forced to start against New England, expect this number to creep upward in favor of the Pats.
Bills (-14, 48.5) at Jaguars
Is it just me or does it seem like Buffalo is laying two TDs every week? The Bills pushed as 15-point favorites yesterday against the Dolphins. They face the Jets after the Jags and will likely lay another big number for a third consecutive week.
Browns at Bengals (-3, 48.5)
Cleveland and Cincinnati in the battle for Ohio bragging rights. The Bengals were available at a more attractive -2.5 at Caesars as of Monday morning.
Raiders (-3, 47.5) at Giants
Coming off a bye, Las Vegas has won and covered two games in a row, and both games went OVER.
Falcons at Saints (-5.5, 43.5)
New Orleans befuddled Tom Brady in its 36-27 win over the Bucs. Even though Jameis Winston suffered a knee injury and has since been ruled out for the season, next week’s line has moved in New Orleans’ direction, from an opener of -4.5. If you’re leaning Saints, grab the -5 at DraftKings.
Chargers (-2.5, 50.5) at Eagles
This game opened Chargers -3.5 in Las Vegas, but the number has been bet down to -2.5. Philly’s defense suffocated the (still winless) Lions in a 44-6 rout on Sunday.
Cardinals (-2.5, 46.5) at 49ers
Circa posted an opening number of Cardinals -1.5. Early action moved that number to -2.5.
Titans at Rams (-6, 54)
Derrick Henry’s foot injury overshadowed the Titans’ big win at Indy. Henry, who may be done for the season, leads the NFL in rushing yards. Without the key cog in Tennessee’s offense, this line opened at -6.5 Rams at the Superbook, and it was pounded up to -7.5 as of Monday morning.
Monday: Bears at Steelers (-6.5, 40)
This MNF matchup just feels ugly. The Steelers are coming off a 15-10 win at Cleveland as 5-point road dogs, but they are just 1-3 ATS at Heinz Field this season.
