NHL Player Props for Thursday, Nov. 2
Below, we have included the NHL betting odds from our best sports betting apps for each game we have a pick on tonight.
Mathew Barzal Anytime Goal Socrer
While Mathew Barzal has been moved up and down the lines this season, he is still putting up one of his most productive offensive seasons. He has never been that great of a goal scorer in his career, and he only has one goal through eight games this season.
However, Barzal is taking 3.8 shots per game this year, which is almost 1.5 shots more than his previous career high and also well above his career average. He is also averaging 10.1 shots on goal per 60 minutes, and his four high-danger unblocked shot attempts rank towards the top of the league. For Barzal, this is an insane uptick in production, as he usually does not get a lot of attempts in a season, let alone quality shots.
Washington also is not playing very good defense right now, allowing over 30 shots per game and 3.25 goals per. While they have been much better over the last few games, they still are allowing a lot of shots on net.
Even with his significant increase in shots, Barzal is not a great scoring threat. But the drastic uptick in shots is hard to ignore at this point, and he is going up against a Capitals defense that has been playing above its actual level the last few games. This feels like a good spot for Barzal to cash a goal-scorer prop.
Alex DeBrincat Over Points
The Detroit Red Wings started the season on fire, especially on offense. While they are on a bit of a skid, this unit still ranks in the top 10 in points (13), PP% (29.7%), shooting % on unblocked shots (11.01%), and they are the top goal-scoring team in the NHL (40) through 10 games.
A big part of their success with the puck can be credited to Alex DeBrincat, who continues to be one of the top point-scorers in the league. In 10 games, he leads the league in goals (9), and his 13 points rank in the top 10. This is especially impressive when you consider he has not scored a goal or registered a point in his last three games.
While the Florida Panthers will be a big test for the Red Wings offense, DeBrincat is still getting his shots off; they are just not turning into positive results. With his track record of contributions on the ice, he should eventually snap out of this pointless streak.
To get out of this slump, Detroit is going to lean heavily on a high-powered offense, and that starts with DeBrincat. The odds carry a lot of juice for DeBrincat to score a point tonight, but we know he will be put into scoring opportunities plenty of times.
