NHL Player Props for Wednesday, Nov. 1
Below, we have included the NHL betting odds from our best sports betting apps for each game we have a pick on tonight.
Barrett Hayton Over shots
Although he has not scored a goal or recorded a point this season, Barrett Hayton is getting plenty of shots up for a Coyotes team that has been much better than advertised on the offensive end. They rank sixth in Expected Goal % and seventh in power play conversion, and they have moved the puck very well in 5-on-5, ranking ninth in xGoal%.
While their play is not translating to wins, it is clear that this is a much-improved roster, and they will be able to shoot their way into many games this season. Hayton ranks second on the team in shots, and he has been Arizona’s best skater on the power play, as he has the most shots on the team with a man advantage.
He only gets 2.9 shots per game, but Hayton has the advantage over a Ducks defense that has shown improvement early this season but still ranks towards the bottom of the league in most categories. Like Arizona, the Ducks brought in some veterans to help fill out a rebuilding roster, and they have given this team a boost, but Anaheim still allows a ton of shots, and their penalty kill has been less than desirable this season.
Hayton is one of the leading centers on this team, especially on the power play. As long as the Ducks’ defense continues to be mediocre, Hayton should get plenty of shot attempts, especially since Anaheim is playing with its backup goalie after John Gibson was injured against Pittsburgh earlier this week.
Jamie Benn Over Points
The Dallas Stars are 5-1-1, and while they are not putting many pucks into the back of the net, they rank third in point percentage and xGoal%. The offense is moving the puck very well, but it is not translating into many goals.
Luckily, they have a matchup against a Calgary defense that is very leaky. The Flames’ defense ranks 27th in goals allowed per game, and they have allowed 17 goals over the last four games. While they have been among the best in the league at blocked shots, Dallas ranks 11th in unblocked shot attempts, and they have done so by sharing the puck.
Jamie Benn continues to rack up the points, even though his TOI is the lowest since his rookie season. Through seven games, Benn has four assists and two goals. His six points rank second on the team, and he has a couple of great scorers around him, as Joe Pavelski, Wyatt Johnston, and Roope Hintz all have three goals scored for the Stars.
Dallas is a defensive-led team, but the offense has been smooth and effective. They create open shots, and Benn has been one of the top points scorers for an offense not performing to their skill level. Going up against a Flames defense that is due for regression, expect the Stars to be all over this weak defense and for Benn to continue to be in point-scoring situations.
