Last week the wife and I headed out to Red Rock Resort and Casino for Taste at Red Rock. This event was held poolside at Red Rock’s Backyard Pool. It was a perfect night for the event weather-wise and there was a great turnout. If you are a foodie like me this is an event for you. For one fee you got to enter the event, which ran from 6 to 10 p.m., and there were 30 different restaurants that had booths offering tastings from their menu.
It was a great way to try samplings from several different restaurants from around town.
One of my personal favorites from Taste at Red Rock was Grape Street, which had a mushroom risotto topped with braised short rib. This will have me visiting Grape Street real soon for a full portion.
Mastrioni’s was there with samplings of their meatballs and sausage and peppers. Both were very good and as you know from past articles I’m very picky when it comes to Italian sauces. The sauce they served with the meatballs was excellent.
Kona Grill had some of their menu favorites and I tried their Bama Roll, which was a mix of crab, cream cheese, jalapeno, tuna, avocado and a spicy motoyaki sauce. This was a great sushi roll.
Another of my other favorites was Red Rock’s own Salute restaurant, which was offering samples of their signature pasta dish. I have had this dish many times as they take house made fettuccine then toss it in a vodka cream sauce along with toasted garlic and tomato sauce.
For those with a sweet tooth they had you covered as well, as Red Rock’s own pastry shop had an entire booth with great desserts to finish off the evening after so many great food offerings.
Now after having great food and desserts a good cup of coffee would be great. One of the best coffee shops in town, Sambalatte Torrefazione, was on hand and the wife and I both enjoyed a fancy cup of espresso that was spot on.
For me, I was satisfied with not just all the food offerings but if you like wine and other cocktails you hit the jackpot as they had so many different wine and Champagne offerings to sample. If you wanted something stronger Jim Beam was there, as well as Don Julio tequila.
There were a couple specialty vodka vendors as well. If you are a beer drinker you were also very happy as there were countless booths with craft beer vendors offering tastings. Many were local breweries and our friend was in beer heaven.
I thought the Taste at Red Rock was a success and hope they make it a regular event. Tickets were $80 to get in but for all the food and drink that was available for four hours and hanging poolside with a DJ playing music made for a great evening.
It truly was a great way to try places I hadn’t been to yet and now want to make a trip to for a full dinner. If I were a restaurant owner I would want to be included in the next event if I could.
