In just about a month, March Madness will be here. Until then, teams are still battling it out for conference tournament seeding. The North Carolina Tar Heels are on top in the ACC, but they have a tricky road game against the Syracuse Orange tonight. This has all the makings of a competitive weekday matchup, and we are here to break down the North Carolina vs. Syracuse odds, predictions, and best bets.

Despite a few slip-ups recently, North Carolina is still a top-10 ranked team, and NC March Madness odds are near the top. Meanwhile, Syracuse started the season strong, but the Orange have lost four of its last six, and they lost to the Tar Heels by 36 earlier this season.

Still, we could be in for an entertaining game tonight. If you need help picking a side in this matchup, we have got you covered as we have poured through the data and have come up with the best North Carolina vs. Syracuse betting pick.

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Spread: UNC (), Syracuse ()

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Moneyline: UNC (), Syracuse ()

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Total: Over/Under: ()

North Carolina Tar Heels (19-5, 14-10 ATS)

This has been a weird two weeks for the Tar Heels. It started with a loss to Georgia Tech, but North Carolina responded by physically outmating Duke at the Dean Dome. However, UNC lost its next game at home to Clemson before barely holding on to defeat Miami on Saturday.

The loss to Georgia Tech snapped a 10-game winning streak, which included a 36-point demolition of Syracuse. North Carolina has so much offensive talent that even a lousy shooting night might not be enough to beat them.

However, North Carolina loves losing in prominent ‘letdown spots.’ As we have seen over the past few weeks, North Carolina will take on a lot of water if the opposing team can shoot the ball well from deep. This leads us to tonight’s game, where they will play a streaky Syracuse team.

Defensively, UNC allows over 23 three-point attempts per game, ranking 240th. Luckily for the Heels, they only allow a 29.9% conversion rate. If you can hit some threes against North Carolina, you will put yourself in a good spot based on how many they allow teams to shoot.

Syracuse Orange (15-9, 9-15 ATS)

Entering the new year, the Orange looked like they could earn a spot in March Madness. While losing to most of the good teams on your schedule is not a great sign, Syracuse ended 2023 with a 10-3 record, including wins over LSU, Oregon, and Pitt.

Since then, they are only 5-6, and their rotation just got weaker with the dismissal of forward Benny Williams. This leaves the Orange with only four active forwards on the roster, which could be a fatal blow with Armando Bacot on the opposite end this evening.

North Carolina loves to push the ball and give it down low to Bacot to either put up a shot or dish it out to one of many talented guards. Before Williams was kicked off the team, Syracuse did not do a great job defending the paint, and his absence certainly will not help.

Giving up points is not going to be something Syracuse can stop tonight. There are just too many shooters and a physical mismatch down low. Realistically, Syracuse’s best shot at winning tonight is if they get hot from deep.

In the season’s first matchup, the Orange shot 21% from three and lost by 36. There were more issues other than not hitting outside shots in that game, but Syracuse is shooting 38% from three in its wins this season, compared to just 24% when they lose.

At home, against a team prone to losing games like this, the Orange can keep its NCAA tournament hopes alive with a solid shooting night.

While you cannot bet on the home state North Carolina Tar Heels just yet, the go-live date is just in time for the ACC tournament and March Madness, both of which will heavily feature the Heels.

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Prediction: Lay the Points with UNC

As mentioned multiple times earlier, this is a spot where North Carolina loves to lose.

But Syracuse is starting to founder, and betting on a team that relies heavily on good shooting nights is not the recipe for making money betting on college basketball. Even if they lose, laying the points with North Carolina is the correct spot.

I don’t see the Orange having any answers for Bacot or Harrison Ingram, and North Carolina has the shooters to keep up with the Orange if they so happen to have a big night. Look for the Heels to control the paint and put up another big number against this Syracuse team.

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Prediction: UNC -8.5 at time of publication (LIVE ODDS: )

North Carolina vs. Syracuse Injury Report
