Nuggets vs. Suns Betting Trends & Notes

Can Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and the Suns avoid an 0-3 series deficit against the Nuggets at home? (Photo by Melissa Tamez/Icon Sportswire)

Neither team put forth its best effort in Game 2, but the Suns’ collapse in the second half is quite concerning for the rest of the series. In both games, the Nuggets took control after halftime, and that was especially true for Game 2, as they held Phoenix to just 45 second-half points, including only allowing 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Outside of Devin Booker‘s 35-point performance, the Suns’ offense was flat the entire game, as they shot only 40% from the field and 19.4% from deep. In fact, only Booker and Kevin Durant hit a three-pointer for Phoenix, and Durant had a terrible shooting night, hitting only two of his 12 three-point attempts.

However, this series is heading to Phoenix, where the Suns are 30-14 SU and 23-20-1 ATS. Those numbers do not jump off the page, but the Nuggets are only 20-23 ATS on the road, and as an underdog, Denver is 10-11 SU.

Denver Nuggets Betting Trends

  • Denver is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 14 of Denver’s last 20 games
  • Denver is 5-0 ATS in its last five games against Phoenix
  • Denver is 1-5 SU in its last six games in Phoenix

Phoenix Suns Betting Trends

  • Phoenix is 1-4 ATS in its last five games
  • The total has gone OVER in four of Phoenix’s last five home games
  • The total has gone OVER in seven of Phoenix’s last 10 games
  • Phoenix is 11-5 SU in its last 16 games

Trying to find a Nuggets vs. Suns Game 3 prop bet may be challenging with the number of options available, but we are here to help decipher the Nuggets vs. Suns odds and give the best picks of the night.

Kevin Durant Over 28.5 Points (-110, DraftKings)

Durant has not had a great series, with a +/- of -24 through the first two games and a poor shooting effort in Game 2. However, he still puts up high-scoring totals because he will always take 10-20 shots per night, which has remained true throughout the postseason.

He has gone over this number in three games during the postseason, including Game 1 against the Nuggets, and he is putting up 18.7 shots per game, which gives us plenty of opportunities for Durant to go over this number.

During the regular season, Durant has exceeded this number in 21-of-25 games when he puts up at least 18 shots, and his shooting numbers at home for his career are slightly better than they are on the road. With the Suns down 0-2, they will need Durant’s offensive excellence for Game 3, and although his shooting numbers are down during the playoffs, Durant is averaging just under 28 points per game in the playoffs.

Nuggets vs. Suns Game 3 Prediction

Phoenix will likely be without Chris Paul for at least the next two games, which means they are down their best distributor, but the Suns are talented enough to survive without him. They have not shown it so far in this series, but Phoenix is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the NBA, and they rank seventh in Defensive Rating.

However, Denver has completely shut down this offense, and Phoenix has had no answers for Nikola Jokic. The two-time MVP has dominated during the playoffs, and in the two games against the Suns, the Joker is averaging 31.5 points and 17.5 rebounds per game on 37.5% shooting from beyond the arc.

His supporting cast having a great series has made defending the Nuggets virtually impossible. Even though Jamal Murray had a poor Game 2 performance, Aaron Gordon, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Michael Porter Jr. have all picked up the slack when needed, and the Suns have had no answers.

Clearly, the Suns are a much better team at home, but without Paul, Phoenix will have trouble getting a cold offense going. The Nuggets should keep this one close — if not win the game outright.
