Howdy folks, bring your pony up close and side me for a kind of fast poker ride.

I have developed a new poker game.

I have decided to call it OKLAHOMA Johnny Hold’em poker.

I think it is an exciting fast action poker game and can be played limit or no limit.

The game can be played as a pit game or in the poker room or on the slots!

If the game is played no limit – it has a super dangerous and exciting optional bet at the end.

I have presented this game to several of your poker rooms. If it shows up in your favorite poker room give it a try.

I think you will like it.

I will reveal how the game is played in a future column – but if you cannot wait – email me at [email protected] and I will give you some additional information.

Many years ago during my salad days, I played poker in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Now, of course, Oklahoma is the buckle on the Bible belt, so we had to hide and play.

We always made arrangements so that the county sheriff and the judge always won when they would drop by to play a few hands. We were pretty safe from the local police.

The bookies would always win in the sports betting, but when they sit down to play poker with us, we would get even with them.

But the bad boys (some of the time it was losing poker players) who needed to get back a new bankroll so that they could sit in again in the game would drop by and show the best hand (a couple of shotguns) and no one could beat that pair, as it was the best hand. They would win (or take) all of the money in the game.

I had a favorite hiding place for my larger bankroll (now it can be told). I kept my money rolled up in the pencil sharpener in the office.

We created many different poker games; any player could design his favorite poker game and the game was dealt by the players so that when it came time for the player to deal, he was the only one to ante –usually $5 and up – or whatever!

The dealer would deal each player two cards, and would look at his two cards and choose the game he wished to play.

Now you may think this is unfair to the other players, but the dealer was the only one who was at risk as he was the only one who had money in the pot, so if you did not wish to play you had no risk!

But everyone wanted to play, so we added a wrinkle – you could throw one of your cards away if you put $1 in the pot; then if you did not like the card you could double the purchase price and throw one of your cards and buy another for $2.

You could buy as many cards as you wished, but each time the price would go up double the price of the last card you had bought … that is, $1-2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256, etc.

This made a very interesting pot sometimes. My M.O. was to show a little speed and I would buy up to $32 and stop at that point.

From this poker game came many excellent poker players; Bobby Baldwin a winner of the WSOP main event and Berry Johnston, who also won the WSOP main event and yes in 1980 I won the Best All-Around Player in the WSOP.

Now I told you all of that to explain to you that the game of so called Texas Hold’em was invented in our poker game. Some of the fellows from the Oklahoma poker game brought the game to the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas , where it caught in with legendary Bill Boyd, and the rest is, as they say, history.
