We live in a city that has some of the best restaurants in the world with the most famous chefs, but I have to admit when I find a little out of the way mom and pop-type place to eat I really enjoy it.
I love to support small businesses and you usually will find they go that extra mile in serving their customers. One of those places is Our Families Country Café (10591 S. Rainbow). I’ll admit it was a little hard to find at first as it’s tucked inside the Mountain’s Edge Community off of Blue Diamond, but trust me, once there you’ll be coming back for more.
Their motto is home cookin’ without the mess and that is exactly what you get here. The Café is a family owned and run business. It’s like you just walked into a cabin in the mountains. There is a very cozy feeling when you sit down; it’s more like going to dinner at someone’s house rather than being at a restaurant. I have been here many times and actually been waited on by the owner’s son or daughter. Yes, it truly is a family business.
My first trip here was for breakfast and they offer a full selection of hearty choices. My favorite is the Pork Chops & Eggs. They offer two pork chops seasoned and char-grilled to perfection, served with two eggs and home fries, which are diced potatoes with bell peppers and onions.
If you’re really hungry I would suggest checking out the Ham Steak & Eggs. You better be hungry as this is a 16 ounce bone-in ham steak char-grilled, served with two eggs and home fries. My wife loves their Biscuits and Gravy. You get two large biscuits smothered in homemade country sausage gravy with an order of home fries. Their pancakes are light and fluffy and always hit the spot.
Breakfast isn’t the only good thing. I have several favorites on the dinner menu, including the Fried Chicken, which is a breaded chicken breast deep fried to a golden brown and then smothered in their homemade country gravy. It comes with your choice of potatoes, roll, bread and a choice of homemade soup of the day or a dinner salad. Here’s the best part: you get all of that for just $13.95!
Their Rib Eye Steak is delicious and they have a size for all appetites. You can get it in 6, 10 or 16 ounce cuts. If you are really hungry, for an extra $1 an ounce you can have any size rib eye you want up to 30 ounces as they hand cut the steaks right there. Be sure to save room for dessert as they have country favorites like Peach Cobbler.
If you are looking for a good home cooked meal featuring all your favorite comfort foods at reasonable prices then you have to check out Our Families Country Café. Good food at great prices makes this place a winner. I give it a rating of 3.75 forks.
