Paris St. Germain Roster, Injuries, and Betting News
Losing Messi and Neymar over the offseason brought to an end a disappointing two-season run with the attacking trio of Mbappe, Messi, and Neymar. While the club won Ligue 1 in both ’21-22 and ’22-23, it failed to make a deep Champions League run either season — Messi and Co. were eliminated by Real Madrid in the round of 16 in ’21-22, and they also failed to advance past the round of 16 last year, when they were bounced by Bayern Munich.
This year’s team will look very different to anyone who hasn’t watched PSG since the Champions League matches against Bayern. In addition to Neymar and Messi, other key players from last year’s team who have since left Paris include center back Sergio Ramos and midfielder Marco Verratti.
PSG’s offseason roster overhaul also included the additions of center back Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan, forward Marco Asensio from Real Madrid, forward Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona and forward Goncalo Ramos from Benfica (the latter on a loan deal). The Ligue 1 club’s manager, Luis Enrique, is well-known for his success at Barcelona from 2014-17.
In Ligue 1, PSG have gotten seven goals from Mbappe in just four appearances, but their record is just 2-2-1, and they’re currently in fifth place in the French top flight.
PSG are the favorites to win Group F , and they’re heavily favored to at least finish top-2 and advance.
Injuries
PSG are without left back Nuno Mendes (hamstring).
Borussia Dortmund Roster, Injuries, and Betting News
It’s been a long time since Dortmund made much noise in Champions League knockout play, but they’re usually a solid bet to at least reach the UCL round of 16.
This year, however, they’re underdogs to advance from Group F, which looks like the clear ’23-24 Group of Death. Manager Edin Terzic’s side is to win a deep group that also includes Newcastle United and AC Milan.
Dortmund once again feature as many talented young players in prominent roles as any Champions League club: Nico Schlotterbeck, 23; Karim Adeyemi, 21; Youssoufa Moukoko, 18; and USMNTer Giovanni Reyna, 20, are all among the top young players in Europe. BVB have several proven veterans in key roles as well, though. That group includes attacking midfielder Julian Brandt, center back Niklas Sule, forward Sebastien Haller, and Marcel Sabitzer.
Despite an up-and-down start to the season domestically, Dortmund are to finish top-4 in the Bundesliga.
Injuries
BVB are not dealing with any injuries to key players.

Paris St. Germain vs. Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Paris St. Germain 2, Borussia Dortmund 1
Neither of these teams is off to a great in their domestic league. PSG, though, have an edge in talent, and in Mbappe, they’ll also have by far the best player on the pitch. That, plus the homefield advantage, and Luis Enrique, the best manager on the PSG touchline in years, give me confidence PSG will get off to a strong in group play, as they do every year. Whether the overhauled lineup will fare any better than previous PSG teams remains unclear, but they feel like a safe bet in Paris on Tuesday.
