Whether you’re a Las Vegas local or just visiting you have to make it to the Peppermill Restaurant & Fireside Lounge (2985 Las Vegas Blvd., S.), a Las Vegas staple for 41 years.
Since 1972 the bright neon lights of the Peppermill have been shining brightly. Even if you haven’t been there before you probably have seen the Peppermill as Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone shot scenes from the movie Casino here. Although Casino was a classic, Showgirls (a not so classic movie) also shot scenes at Peppermill’s Fireside Lounge.
There have been many nights I have put in a long session at one of the poker rooms on the Strip. When finished I am hungry, and no matter what time of the day or night, the Peppermill is there waiting for you. Upon entering, you are greeted with a rainbow of neon lights that add to the restaurant’s historic décor.
A hostess will take you to a big booth. If you are with a group of friends or your special lady, it’s an intimate setting. The Peppermill is like a classic diner on steroids. Come hungry because the size of the portions is huge. When someone who eats like I do says that, you know they are huge.
Many times poker players have no sense of time as they start playing cards and the next thing they know it’s 12 hours later. Mornings become nights and nights sometimes become mornings. Well if you are craving breakfast don’t worry what time it is because the Peppermill serves it 24 hours a day.
I have had their Steak and Eggs and Ham Steak and Eggs countless times and it’s one of the best breakfast meals in town. Once feeling a little healthier, go for the Western Fruit Plate. Let me warn you, when it comes out you’ll think they brought the whole produce department. It is served with a warm house-made Banana Nut Bread. I suggest sharing it with a friend.
Looking for a good burger? The Peppermill Pastrami Burger is out of this world. They have a wide selection of deli-style sandwiches as well as an extensive list of entrees. But the Peppermill is not all about the eats.
If you want to just hang out and chill with friends or your special someone check out the Fireside Lounge side. Order up some cocktails, sit by the fireplace and listen to the music. You and your lady can sip cocktails and feel like Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone. I like to take friends to the Fireside Lounge when they are in town just because of the history of the place.
Yes, I’m old school but you know the saying – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The Peppermill has been working just fine for 41 years. Sometimes it’s fun being a tourist in your own city and the Peppermill is one of those places the wife and I like to play that role.
While you’re there they have a camera girl who walks around, takes your picture and puts it on a complimentary post card.
Good food, great cocktails and a cool place to chill. I give Peppermill Restaurant & Fireside Lounge 3.75 Forks!
