This past week I finished up my last road trip before the start of the football regular season. I went to Reno for a weekend getaway. When I travel someplace that really isn’t that far from Las Vegas I’ll share if I find something good and I did at the Peppermill Hotel & Casino.
We have some of the nicest sportsbooks in the country right here in Las Vegas but if you get a chance to go to Reno I highly recommend checking out the Peppermill’s sportsbook as I rank it as the nicest sportsbook both here in Las Vegas and Reno. If you are a horse player, you will think you died and went to heaven.
The work stations have high back leather chairs comfortable enough to sit there all day playing. Actually, it’s a pretty smart idea by the person who came up with the chairs. After playing all day you are going to get hungry and the Peppermill has a lot of different dining options throughout the casino. My favorite restaurant on this trip was Oceano. It was so good I ate there twice on my weekend trip.
Oceano is a seafood and sushi restaurant that’s open for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is breathtaking in its design as everything is in a white and blue décor giving you the feeling of being at the Ocean. They have several lunch specials served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The one I had was delicious as I went with the small shrimp pan roast and a half of a Pacifica sandwich.
The Pacifica sandwich consisted of Dungeness crab, shrimp, fresh dill mayo served on toasted sourdough bread. For $11.50 this was a tremendous lunch. On my second visit I wanted to try some sushi and a specialty roll. I asked the waiter what was his favorite and he quickly replied, “my favorite and the most popular by far is the Rock Lobster Roll.” Let me tell you, he was spot on with his recommendation as this roll had Tempura lobster, Snow crab, avocado, Tempura crunch, unagi sauce and siracha. I absolutely loved this roll.
I also had a cup of their Maine Lobster Bisque, which was very tasty as well. If you are really hungry they offer All You Can Eat Sushi. If not into sushi you can order from a wide array of fresh fish dishes expertly prepared.
The wait staff was very attentive and when she asks if you want some fresh sourdough bread to munch on be sure to say yes. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. I give the Oceano a rating of 3.75 Forks.
If you need a reason to make a trip to Reno go to Baldini’s Casino and open up their new phone betting app by US Bookmaking. You may ask with so many phone apps available right here in Vegas why go to Reno? Well, Baldini’s is the first phone app to offer reduced juice (-108) in the United States.
