The Philadelphia Phillies are back home needing just one win to make a return trip to the World Series. In their path are the Arizona Diamondbacks, an unlikely obstacle that’s shown fortitude in this postseason.

Phillies vs Diamondbacks odds for the NL Championship Series Game 6 favor the home team. But if you have faith in the D’backs, you can find good odds on the underdogs at top sports betting apps.

Pitching Matchup for Game 6

Merrill Kelly (3.00 ERA, 11 K in 12 IP) vs. Aaron Nola (0.96 ERA, 19 K in 18.2 IP)

Three home runs were hit against Kelly in Game 2. Two of those came off the bat of Kyle Schwarber, the other was hit by Trea Turner. If the Diamondbacks have any chance to extend this series, Kelly needs to keep the ball in the park. He’ll have to flip the script: he’s allowed five homers in 19 2/3 innings against the Phils. If Schwarber and his pals look at Kelly as little more than an “Iron Mike” (pitching machine), Monday’s game could be over quicker than you can say “Philly Cheesesteak.”

This will be Nola’s fourth postseason start this October, and the Phils have yet to lose when the bushy-haired righthander from Baton Rouge takes the mound. He’s 3-0 this postseason, and 5-2 overall in eight career postseason starts. You could argue that his curveball, four-seamer, and sinker combination is the most wicked in these playoffs. He mixes that trio of pitches so well that batters might not know if he’s pitching them straight-up or “backwards.”

There will be a lot of thinking going on between the mound and the batters’ box, as the Phils’ lineup is known to ambush opposing pitchers. We suspect Nola will rack up his share of strikeouts. More on that below in our betting pick.

Phillies vs Diamondbacks Game 6 Preview & Prediction

The Phillies have outscored the Diamondbacks 26-12 in the five games, yet face the possibility of having to win a Game 7. That’s what happens when your lineup takes a nap for a few games in Arizona, and your bullpen blows two leads.

Arizona has won the close games, and the Phils have handled the blowouts. Which makes us wonder: if Game 6 is a seat-of-your-pants thriller, can the Phillies survive the tight moments?

Arizona skipper Torey Lovullo will empty his bullpen to avoid elimination. That may be a problem, because the D’backs bullpen has allowed nine earned runs and 10 walks in 18 2/3 innings this series, for a 4.33 ERA.

The shaky ARI bullpen is why we like the Phillies to prevail in Game 6, in what will probably become an unmanageable game for the visitors. Runs will be scored – too many for the Snakes to overcome.
