It’s only the preseason, but bet on it

Finally football is here, the college lines are up and we have a full schedule of NFL preseason games this week. Sunday I started off with a loser but once all the money came flowing in on the Bengals it signaled trouble as the game went to Cincy -3; lets put that game behind us and look forward to some winners this week.

Thursday, Aug. 12

Saints +1½ total 35½ at Patriots 4:30 pm ESPN TV: Normally I would love to take the Pats in this spot but Belichick has been lackluster lately in these games while the Saints have won their last four road games all as a dog. SAINTS +1½

Panthers +3 total 34 at Ravens 5 pm: Fox was 0-4 ATS last year and 3-9 ATS the last three years with the Panthers; Harbaugh with the Ravens has been good on the road but only 1-3 ATS at home the last four; we will take a pass.

Raiders at Cowboys 5 pm: The Cowboy players don’t like this schedule very much as they are back in uniform after just four days. The Raiders are very deep in the QB position with four seasoned players and last year all four of their preseason games went over the total. OVER

Friday, Aug. 13

Jaguars +3 total 34 at Eagles 4:30 pm: Del Rio with the Jags is 18-10 SU and 9-2-1 ATS as a dog. Reid for the Eagles does not press in these games and was 0-4 ATS last year. JAGUARS +3

Bills +3½ total 32½ at Redskins 4:30 pm: The money has already showed on the Skins with new HC Mike Shanahan taking over and at one time he was one of the best preseason coaches when with Denver. Bills new HC Gailey was 1-9 SU and 2-8 ATS when with the Cowboys. REDSKINS -3½

Chiefs +3 total 34½ at Falcons 5 pm: Second year HC Todd Haley was 0-4 SU and ATS in his first year with KC. Atlanta has gone 6-2 ATS the last two preseasons. FALCONS -3

Saturday, Aug. 14

Buccaneers +3½ total 33 at Dolphins. 4 pm: Morris in his first year with TB went 1-3 ATS while Tony Sparano’s fish have gone 7-1 SU and 6-1-1 ATS. DOLPHINS -3½

Lions +2½ total 33½ at Steelers 4:30 pm: Just don’t count out Tomlin and the Steelers as they will now unveil their new steel curtain and a strong running game. UNDER 33½

Texans -1 total 33 at Cardinals 5 pm: This game opened pick and has moved to the Texans -1. Kubiak with the Texans has gone 9-7 SU and 9-5-2 ATS but 8-1 as a dog and that would have been a strong play. HC Whisenhunt with the Cards is a very lackluster 2-10 SU and 3-9 ATS and 0-6 as the chalk. TEXANS -1

Vikings -1 total 32 at Rams 5 pm: As the mind games continue with the QB spot at Minnesota we will take a little shot with Spagnuolo and the Rams as he was 3-1 SU and ATS all as a dog in his first season with St. Louis. RAMS +1 AND UNDER 32

Browns +2½ total 34 at Packers 5 pm: Green Bay in its last nine preseason games are 8-1 over the total. OVER 34

Bears +3 total 34 at Chargers 6 pm: Lovie Smith takes these games seriously, he has gone 7-4 ATS as a dog and is 9-3 over the total. Norv Turner has gone just 1-3 ATS when favored by three or more points. BEARS +3 AND OVER 34

Titans +3½ total 34 at Seahawks 7 pm: Fisher has gone 11-4 as a dog with the Titans in preseason. First year HC Pete Carroll may be weeding things out in the early going. TITANS +3½

Sunday, Aug. 15

49ers -3 total 34 at Colts 10 pm: At first glance you would think this was a bad line but with little or no Manning and Singletary wanting nothing but wins, we will side with the 49ers. 49ERS -3

Broncos at Bengals 4 pm: McDaniels in his first preseason with Denver was 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS in all low scoring games. Cincy looked like crap in the Hall Of Fame game. UNDER THE TOTAL

Monday, Aug. 16

Giants +1 total 32½ at Jets 5 pm ESPN TV: Both teams unveil their new stadium; last year in his first season with the Jets, Rex Ryan’s Jets went over the total in all four of their Preseason games. OVER 32½

If you like any of these selections or have your own and want to play some parlay cards, well Bob Scucci over at Coast Casinos says come on down as he will be offering parlay cards and teaser cards for the preseason football games.

There are a lot of football contests that you can take part in this year as every year but if you have an extra $100k and that is not a typo, you can take a shot at Cantor Gaming’s Colossal Football contest. I have heard that they already have several entries committed and are hoping for a total of 20 entries for a purse of $2 million, with 70% of all entry fees going to the winner, 20% of all entry fees to the second place finisher and 10% to the third place finisher. I know if I had an extra 100k I would be sitting on the finish line at Del Mar drinking a cold one.

Talking about big contests, this past weekend John Avello over at the Wynn Race Book had his big $2k buy-in horse contest which drew around 85 entries including mine. I had a great time but finished up the track, though the wine and food was great.

TVG’s Nancy Ury (pictured) was in the contest playing for her favorite charity in this her first contest, but she had such a great time we expect her to be in many more.

Being an astute fourth generation horse player we could see her atop the leader board one of these days.
