As my regular readers of this column know, I like to find little mom and pop type places to eat as you can just taste the difference in the food and the pride with which it’s prepared and served. This week I stumbled onto to new restaurant in town – The Pierogi Café at 1717 S. Decatur Blvd. It is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Coming from Pittsburgh there were many great polish restaurants that served authentic Polish food, but in the eight years I’ve been here in Las Vegas I haven’t had a single pierogi until now.

The Pierogi Café is a quaint-charming little café with about eight tables. All the food is homemade and fresh.

They had a nice variety of pierogies to choose from, including the traditional Meat Pierogi, Potato, Cheese and Onion, Sauerkraut and Mushroom, Spinach and Feta Cheese. There is also the Chef’s Special Pierogi stuffed with white sausage.

You can get a half order of six pierogies for $7 or a full order of 12 for $12. You can also order the Mixed Pierogi Plate for $14. With the mixed plate you get 12 pierogies and can pick up to three different flavors.

They also have a Polish Plate, which consisted of six pierogies and a polish sausage for $14. This is what I ordered as I got to have two favorites in one meal. You can mix the pierogi flavors on this dish also.

You get to choose your toppings as well. You can get caramelized onions, bacon bits, sour cream, butter, cheese gravy, mushroom gravy or whip cream. I went with caramelized onions and butter on top of my potato, cheese and onion pierogies.

You can get your pierogies fried or boiled. I went with the fried. They were so good and the polish sausage was excellent as well. They serve the polish sausage grilled and offer two sides with it, sauerkraut or cabbage with bacon. I went with the sauerkraut and it was very good.

They offer several sandwiches as well. If you want breakfast they have a French Croissant with egg, French cheese and ham or a Bagel Sandwich with egg, Gouda and ham.

They offer a nice vegetarian menu consisting of grilled vegetable skewers, a baked vegetable plate and baked penne pasta with grilled vegetables and a white Parmesan sauce. They had several pastries and desserts as well but I was too full for anything else.

The lady who took our order was one of the owners and you could just see the pride in her eyes when she brought the food to the table. She made several trips to see if everything was ok and to keep our drinks filled.

As I was leaving she said if I enjoyed my meal they would appreciate me liking them on Yelp. I chuckled to myself as I was going to do her one better and put them in my column.

When I go to a place to eat I don’t let them know who I am and don’t want special treatment. This way I get the same experience anyone would get so as to write a fair review.

I give the Pierogi Cafe a Rating of 3.75 Forks.
