What is Points Betting?

In addition to traditional ways to bet on sports, PointsBet offers a unique form of wagering called ‘points betting,’ which rewards bettors based on margin of victory. The amount of the payout is multiplied by the number of points by which the spread or total is beat.

For example, if a bettor wagers on the Knicks to cover a spread of -2 and they win by four, the amount of the payout doubles; if the Knicks win by five points, it triples, since they covered the spread by three points.

Of course, the house needs to eat too: so if you lose your bet by a wider margin, you will also lose more.

But while points betting is different than wagering into typical sportsbook odds, it allows you an opportunity to win big. If your bet wins by two points, you win twice your bet amount, and if your bet wins by 10 points, you win 10 times your bet.

PointsBet also allows you to set limits on these types of wagers to avoid losing too much money, but your winnings will also be limited, too. There are also max and minimum win/loss numbers for each point bet, set by PointsBet.

Because there exists the potential to win or lose much more on a single bet, you will need to have the money in your PointsBet account to cover a potential loss. For example, a $15 bet with a max loss of 40x your original stake means you’ll need to have $600 in your account.

PointsBet is a fun and safe way to bet on sports, as long as you maintain responsible gaming practices. In addition to New York, it’s available in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia.
